So as you know I been super busy preparing for my friend’s Dirty Thirty plus 1 bday bash. Hence the lack of frequent posts around here. She was sick on her 30th so she wanted to celebrate with a bang this year. For the tables I used your basic plastic tablecloths but tied them at the base with feather boas like you see for cocktail at weddings. On top I placed legs I made with craft paper and foam board bases that were used to keep the legs upright. The tutus were made from napkins folded and glued with a glue gun. I added adhesive gems for the garder belt and velvet and glitter craft paper for the shoes. The candle holders were covered with fishnets and electronic candles that flickered.
Everyone were told to wear black and red burlesque or vintage glam. I made my headpiece with sequin border and feathers from Michael’s and 6″ of veil from JoAnn Fabric all for around $4.
The dessert table lined with wrapping paper in a damask pattern. Her cake was made like a corset and the cupcakes had the legs on them. I also drew and cut out silhouettes of women. What you can’t really see is the large martini glass that is holding up the hoola hoop on the table. I made it look like the girl was perched on top, as you see in moulin rouge performances…
Backdrop: I used a curtain panel my friend had and hung it with velcro. Then I drapped a satin reddish fabric over it with a boa.
Photo Booth Props: for the makeshift photobooth, I created a ton of signage simply using sparkly pipe cleaner and skewers along with craft paper glued by a glue gun. Funny sayings like “meow” “I came for the cake” “wasted”. I added funny sunglasses, mustaches and lips.
For some tables I added wrapping paper and boas, scattered feathers…
I drew silhouettes of burlesque dancers, cut them out with exacto knives and scissors, and taped them to craft paper that had the official party hashtag. These were placed on walls to encourage guests to share photos of the night…
Mood-Factory’s red Mood Passion available at Lowe’s were used in the sconces. They definitely helped create a red light special for the vip area. To me lighting does wonders for a space so thanks to Nancy of Verticom for supplying the bulbs.
Here are other random deets. I made custom banners from craft paper. I also made a really pretty banner that I didn’t get a pic of but I will show you later on a different post.
I loved how everyone on the dance floor looked like silhouettes. So it was as if the theme came full circle.
Burlesque is very fun for dress up even for a bachelorette party. Corsets, top hats, tutus, layered pearls, lace gloves and the guys in suits, You can view photos with the hashtag #mercedesburlesque on instagram or see my page for more
