Pastel floral tea party decor perfect for a shower, brunch or Easter…

image

Being that Easter is in a few weeks, which seems odd for some reason, I decided to do a pastel tea party post since those are the same colors used to decorate for Easter time…

Get more bang for your buck by hosting a little brunch with your adult lady friends or setting a themed playdate for your daughter, niece, etc…

image

You want to dress up for a tea party. Think, ladies who lunch. With girly dresses and maybe even hats, lace, frills, flowy A-lined skirts, ruffles etc. For little girls, dresses and feather boas, gloves and all of that jazz.

image

If you want, even have a few costume dresses on hand so those that come unprepared can at least change into something festive at the party. Leave out a vintage luggage case with different props that they can go through to add to their look.

image

Those same props can be used against a backdrop for a photo booth photoshoot. So that means anything that goes with little girls dressing up: costume jewelry, scarves, crowns, glitter heels.

It’s always cute to see little girls in adult heels playing dress up. I done it too.

Vintage Marquee Signage and Letters with lights…

As a designer I pay attention to the details of everything. When one of the Kardashians instagrammed themselves in front of a stove, I think I was the only one who looked first at the backsplash. When I go to … Continue reading

Can I live here? I’ll settle for a wknd rental. This saturated hued glamour home is everything

glam interior design apartment therapy design indulgences.jpeg

A lover of vintage glamour and saturated hues, Maria found herself hesitant in incorporating those same passions for her home. But interior designer Michelle Workman helped her embrace it so that she too could live with such indulgences. Aren’t we … Continue reading

You can riiiiiing…ring my bell. Decorating with vintage retro telephones…

vintage phones

Between that song and Lady Gaga & Beyonce’s Telephone, I always start humming them whenever I see an old telephone in decor. I’d like one just cuz. It seems the more I come across different interiors the more I have an appreciation for things I would have never liked several years ago. This, being one.

Saturday Sunday Shindig: Retro Coney Island Themed Kids Party…

A while back I came across this retro themed carnival party for a child’s birthday and thought the details were incredibly cool. I’m all for thinking outside of the box and not buying entire themes of decor from party supply stores. Carnival parties can go in many directions. One being geared around circus animals with a petting zoo and clowns. This coney island vintage themed one is so cute to me. I especially like that the scheme isn’t strictly primary colors. A POPCORN BUFFET is perfect for kids and will surely be a hit. Continue reading for details…

Retro coke bottles for a ring toss game? Clever. Tickets in the shape of a cake? Super cool and very cheap. Those can be purchased from party supply stores…

Boutique Indulgences: Vintage Finds at Brooklyn Bleu

While seeking inspiration on IN HER SHOES, I came across a post spotlighting the opening of a vintage boutique called Brooklyn Bleu. I love interior design in all things, not just homes or restaurants but clothing stores as well. From these few snap shots, you get a warm feel as if you’re shopping in someone’s DRESSING ROOM. Damask wallpaper, exposed radiators, a fireplace & tons of architectural moldings adds to the vintage feel…

Vintage Breakfast Buffet Bash…

What an awesome way to end a slumber party for kids than creating a vintage breakfast buffet bash! Using jars for drinking glasses and mismatched teacups & china (Goodwill, thrift stores, estate sales), various jars & retro milk jugs you can easily create this look. Cereal never looked so cool…

For place settings, use toothpicks & paper to make little flags & write the kid’s name on them and place them in a stack of pancakes. Ihop styled retro syrup holders in the middle of the table adds all sort of fun.  Blueberry, maple, strawberry syrups are sure to bring smiles to all the kids. Grab cheap blooms from the grocery store and use jars as vases for centerpieces…

Don’t forget to make it nutritious and have sliced strawberries and bananas on deck. Help make smiley faces on the kids pancakes. :-)  Head on over to Jubella to see lots more details of the bash…

This above picture I found on Hostess w/the Mostess & it’s also a vintage theme. I think this would be so cool to add to the Breakfast Bash by simply swapping desserts for pastries, donuts & danishes. All can be purchased from the grocery’s bakery department, no special orders. It’s simply about presentation. Repurpose a candelabra or buy one from Home Goods (Marshalls) and place food on the holders vs candles. You want to create visual interest with different heights. I think the use of a Victorian styled picture frame as an accent is genius. How pretty is this? Think kids won’t appreciate such details? This can easily work for a mother’s day brunch or a shower.

A Vintage Glam Space…

I was not going to sleep tonight until I found this woman’s house. I watch the Nate Berkus show on dvr religiously. Granted, by the time I get free time, I’m usually watching multiple episodes at a time. With that said, it was exactly the case this wknd when he had a woman on who submitted photos of her place. I am not even a vintage kind of girl. Actually I’m eclectic modern with global influences kind of girl. My living room has contemporary styles mixed in with some traditional & it has African, animal print decor pieces. My bedroom is Moroccan in deep plums and cranberry hues. My bathroom is peach & ivory with seashells and shore elements. All my furniture is black as it’s my fav color. However nothing is decorated the way I envision because….student loans are due! LOL

When Lizzie Carney showcased her home on the HOUSE PROUD segment of his show, it truly shows you how one can create a nice space on a budget. Most of her finds were from thrifting. Who would have thunk it. She specifically stated that the bedroom (1st pic) was created by using multiple shades of gray sheets, hanging a rod on one wall and creating a textured look by hanging drapery from it. Combined with the slick charcoal & blush combo, a tufted headboard and chandelier, I think she made a super glammed out vintage romantic room…

She decided to turn a room into a dressing room as opposed to a guest space. I love the tufted, skirted ottoman in the middle of the floor with racks of clothes & crystal light fixture. One thing shown that I admire for any home is a super large decorative framed mirror. So gorgeous. Hanging garments makes this feel like a vintage boutique….

Floating shelves help house additional storage like spices, dishes etc.  I’m not the pink person but I do like the pops of pink and teal through out this kitchen. Click HERE to see the video from the Nate Berkus Show. This definitely made me want to go out to the Goodwill to see what finds I could make new again with paint, etc. Estate sales and rummage (garage) sales are also cool ways to find some neat stuff. You just have to have the right frame of mind for hunting (because most times, I’d rather just buy from Pier1 or Marshalls). However nothing beats a home that actually has character.

What are some treasures you discovered from thrifting?
