Can I live here? I’ll settle for a wknd rental. This saturated hued glamour home is everything

glam interior design apartment therapy design indulgences.jpeg

A lover of vintage glamour and saturated hues, Maria found herself hesitant in incorporating those same passions for her home. But interior designer Michelle Workman helped her embrace it so that she too could live with such indulgences. Aren’t we … Continue reading

Save those shoe boxes & here’s why it benefits closet design…

image

You’re browsing the shoe store. You spot some 4″ stilettos you gotta have. You spot the perfect wedge platforms you can rock with that new maxi dress. Then slowly your eyes covers several other pairs your pockets will afford you. Then at the register you politely tell the cashier “you can keep the boxes”. Sound familiar? Well maybe you should. One thing that kind of irks me is when one doesn’t have a custom closet & shoes lined up in one sad continuous row. Having a box…or two in the mix elevates shoes & just looks better visually. In my opinion….

image

But I never thought about shoe boxes storing anything other than cash (not I…but I’ve seen it before). Here’s an idea. Line the bottoms with satin or velvet fabric. Roll your belts and fit them in alongside each other honeycomb style. Or lay your necklaces and jewelry in each and use like their jewelry box drawers. Store watches, broaches or anything smaller or flatter on shoe box lids for easier visibility. Basically the lids can act as trays to organize sunglasses etc. And the best part…they’re free. Except for….the price of the shoes.

A Man’s loft style…

image

I enjoy seeing high end glam homes that glaze our magazines but I also enjoy seeing how regular folks live. Something about a regular person’s home tour makes ideas feel more tangible to pull off. People’s creativity usually run wild when funds are limited. I also enjoy a good ol’ man cave. A man with home style makes this woman impressed…

Take this entry way. Living in a loft, oftentimes the look can feel cold and hard so to soften the walls, fabric was used. I love a fabric wall. It can be incredibly feminine like here or masculine. It depends on the fabric selected and a rich velvet in a dark hue does the trick. The horn table can be apart of my decor anyday…

Seeing how trays can keep everything tidy and neat isn’t just a trick for women. Men can do it too. Here is another example…

The postcards one the wall is a cool idea for displays. Imagine if this were framed…it’s almost sculptural, like 3D art…

Custom faux finished walls in a metallic plaster in charcoal gray gives a worn leather look…

Color Schemes: Mint & White…

I’ve mentioned before how TURQUIOSE hues are my favorite summer colors and I’ve been seeing a ton of minty inspirations. How about a color scheme of mint & white? Totally fresh & airy. Tufted ottomans like the one above are good for additional seating but when TRAYS are placed on top, they double as tables. The chevron print rug & pillows are the perfect contrast. You don’t have to use pink or red when decorating with black and white…

This seems like a cozy retreat on a lazy bum Sunday. The wall paint gives the room color without being overbearing…

Rooms w/a View: City, Mountain & Ocean Views…

{Jessica Lagrange Interiors LLC}

This glamorous vanity setting seems like something right out of a movie. Beautiful drapery framing a city view backdrop. And on top of it all, the vanity appears clutter free despite the many items on top because they contained things in a TRAY

Definitely not a space for kids but this contemporary ivory living room is fabulous….

Absolutely love the HERRINGBONE brick pattern in the fireplace…

Tuesday’s Tips: A Welcoming Organized Entryway…

{Pinterest}

This is the scene of my apt daily as I enter & my cat Myna, looks down on me from atop the stairs. I always have to guard the door to make sure she doesn’t run outside. She DID do that once in the dead of a brutal winter night & I had to chase her down the walkway as she darted on neighbors patios in confusion. SMH. Anyhoo, I love a welcoming space and yes pets help but so does a beautiful entryway. Keep in mind this is the very first thing guests see so you want to make a good impression. You also want your entryways to be functional…

Paint the door a beautiful hue (if you’re a homeowner) and have a pretty rug right at the entrance…

{The Lennoxx}

Trellis wallpaper (or painted) walls adds a subtle modern touch. Some sort of console table w/chairs on the side and a mirror is pretty standard. You generally want to have some sort of area where you can immediately lay down keys, mail, etc…

{Cape 27 Blog}

Remember what I said about TRAYS and how well they confine your clutter? Look how much neater this looks with the sunglasses & keys on a tray vs just the table. I also dig the jar of change…

{the Yellow Cape Cod}

Use Chalkboard somewhere on the wall to put reminders. This works really well from the backdoor entrance or one coming from the garage as those aren’t really used as much by guest…

Color Connection: Black & White w/Icy Blue Hues…

{Recycled Cosign & Design}

I like unexpected accent colors when designing black and white spaces and this icy blue hue is a pretty compliment. Ever since I did the post on BAMBOO FURNITURE, I always see them in other interiors. Kind of like when you buy a new car and you don’t really see much of it until after  you’ve bought it. Then all of a sudden everybody has the same car!! SideNote: You can click on links to anything in this post or others that’s in all caps & underlined. It’s basically other posts I’ve done about said underlined topic…

{House of Turquoise}

Black & White bathrooms can be kind of cold and although I would not want this for myself personally, I can appreciate the classic approach with the floor & SUBWAY TILE

{Designed by Diane Bergeron}

I love this little seating area. The CHEVRON print rug on top of BLACK FLOORS, black lamp shaded chandelier, the white piping on the sofa, massive window & the Ikat & MOORISH patterned pillows is giving me everything. You know already how I feel about TRAYS and this snake skin one is a very stylish one…

The Placement of Things pt 2: Decorating w/Trays…

Janell Beals traditional living room

I love decorating with trays. I think it helps confine your chaos and prevent things from looking cluttered. Trays make anything look neat from magazines to remote controls and perfumes. How about the little jars in your bathroom that holds cotton swabs, q tips, bath salts etc? Put them on a tray. What about a few containers to hold makeup, a cup for makeup brushes and some perfume? Put it all on a tray. How about a tray in the kitchen or foyer area where you lay your phone, keys, any other randoms that can easily get lost. Here are some ideas to help you place things in a fab way…
