Secret Garden themed parties…

image
Enchanted forests and secret garden themes are wonderful to celebrate nuptials or babies. You can have dinner parties or early brunches in this theme as long as you decorate with some key elements. The super large mirrors is very dramatic for a cocktail hour or reception.

Ever since I seen rapper Ludacris’ wife’s baby shower set in a secret garden theme, I’ve been wanting to blog about it. They had lit birdcages adorned with flowers, donuts hung from ribbon and a lot of the guest, like singers Monica & Letoya Luckett, wore floral dresses. How beautiful.

Creating intimate elaborate tables for the wedding party or bride and groom while having simpler centerpieces on the remaining tables can save money…

image

Key elements: string leafy garland. Get them bulk or buy from places like Michael’s and use 40% off coupons. If it’s for a kid’s party, use Dollar Tree garland and save coins for other things.

Use string lights and electric candles to create ambience…

image

String together flowers or floral garland for drama. You might want to only do this behind a gift or cake table as this can get quite costly…

image

Use mason jars and mismatched china as well as rustic decor like burlap, branches, bark pieces, faux tree stumps, rope and wicker…

image

You have to incorporate moss somewhere and covering giant letters or making a grassy centerpiece is a start…

image

Adorn a cupcake stand or cake table with flower heads. Just grab a bouquet from the grocery store to jazz up the presentation…

Lanterns, wood crates, old dressers and empty frames are other decorating options. You want to have a “just thrown together” look without being too matchy. It should feel relaxed but polished. Remember the more you layer the better so play with height and make sure different foods are at different levels. You want to build your food table upward…

Wedding Season is here…

image

Now is the time to get ready for wedding season. Whether you’re planning a wedding and reception or bridal shower, these ideas are sure to inspire you…

image

Arranging tables under a cherry blossom tree or an area of a yard or park with a pretty flower garden, can have an impact on the look of the event without spending a fortune for floral decor. Last summer I went to a backyard wedding and the owner of the home had the yard decked out with water fountains, rose bushes and all sorts of pretty landscaping. The couple really didn’t need to do much for the outdoor area…

image

A live floral runner is a neat alternative to centerpieces and it doesn’t obstruct the view or conversation flow that a larger arrangement can cause…

Wedding signage is important, not just for visuals. You want to be able to lead guests in the right direction and make it clear for them so think of neat ways to display table numbers and place seating charts. You can easily save money by thrifting and painting frames and mirrors but hire a calligrapher to do the details…

Wedding Sweetheart Tables…

image

I love the idea of sweetheart tables for receptions because weddings make it very hard for the bride and groom to have any lone time. It all flies so fast and you want to mingle with everyone so you don’t get many moments to yourselves. Sweetheart tables allows some time for intimate moments. You can also do something like this for an engagement party or anniversary party.

Happy Thanksgiving! My tablescape with Sparkle & Dine…

image

Hello. I hope you all are enjoying the aromas and good food in the comfort of your families and friends. Today I share some decorating that is a collaboration with Sparkle and Dine, a company that creates themed parties in a box. I used items I had on hand and added Sparkle and Dine’s faux croc table runner, mercury glass candle holders and napkin rings (which I used to hold votive candles)…

image

I wanted to create a glam centerpiece idea along the length of the runner. I added candleholders at different heights, layered different textures with a tall vase full of branches and feathers for drama.

I wanted a color scheme that had the bright orange you see in the fall but with muted tones like gray and black and a little sparkle with silvers….

Have a Spooktacular Halloween…

image

Have any plans for tonight? It’s cold and super windy here and the leaves are high in the sky like tornado debri. It really is a perfect setting for Halloween. I will be someplace warm and engulfed in the first home game of the season for the Bucks. I love nba season and it’s one of the few things I look forward to when the seasons change…

image

I just love these edgy and glam pumpkins via the Life Styled Blog. They are good enough for Halloween but even better for Turkey day. Just use carvable faux pumpkins from Michael’s

Glitter and feathers and printed napkins? Sounds like a pretty festive affair for a masquerade dinner party. See the rest on Formal Fringe. Whatever you do, be safe and have fun. You might as well indulge in all the goodies because the rest of the year is pretty much downhill from here, sweets wise…

Monday Morning Inspiration 3.31.14

image

You know how that voice in your head sometimes makes you feel inadequate? It may tell you you’re not good enough, smart enough, cannot and will not get that done. “That” thing you want to get done may be a short term, long term or life changing goal or accomplishment. Sometimes it’s not the people around you that makes us feel insecure. It may very well be ourselves.

image

We can be our biggest hater (I hate that overused word), our biggest blocker. Often times we believe our own hype. All hype aint good hype though. Don’t allow yourself to feel as if you will lose before you even get started. We have nothing but time and all we can do is try. You’d rather try than be old and wrinkly rocking away in someone’s chair mad at the things you didn’t do or attempt, right? So do them. Set those goals. Do something daily to achieve them.
