Spring Cleaning: how to edit your closet

image

Decided to copy and paste Sarah’s rules of thumb for editing your closet and deciding what to keep and what to lose.

1. “If you hold up the garment and can see any body part imprinted in it – i.e. elbows, knees, saggy bums, etc. – it goes out.”

2. “Pay particular attention to collars – these are near your face and right in people’s eye line, so any fraying, wear-and-tear or make-up/fake tan stains, etc. means it goes.”

3. “Consider the ‘two tries rule:’ if you have put on a garment and then immediately taken it off to wear something else two or more times, let it go. I know, you spent good money on it and have never worn it, but you are not getting that money back by keeping it in your closet. Smile and enjoy the cathartic feeling of de-cluttering.”

**New Series** Spring Cleaning: pretty storage ideas for makeup & nail polish junkies

image

So this weekend is one of the first in forever where I don’t have anything planned. So I think I will purge some items from the makeup drawer and dump some products etc I no longer use. Basically organize a bit. So here are some ways to beautify your vanity or bathroom counters. Because if your drawers look anything like the pic above, although pretty, It’s highly disfunctional which slows down the process of getting ready…

I love the how versatile apothecary jars are. They look pretty with soaps and bath salts but throw some polishes in there for a chic neat storage solution. One for eyeshadows too. Or use a martini glass like here

Or you can do like Racheal Zoe who took a key from nail shops and beaty bars with a wall of polishes with a nail rack. I also know they sometimes repurpose spice rack shelves for them. See this for inspiration…

Drawer inserts are great because they keep everything in place and prevent items from sliding all around upon closure…

Spring Clean & Organize Your Pantry Areas…

{Desire to Inspire}

Love the look of jars to house spices and cereals etc. It makes everything look so much more chic than the typical store bought packaging. Yes, it would take quite some time on a Saturday to refill everything but maybe do it in small steps: One shelf per weekend day or when an item needs to be replenished. That way the process isn’t a burden…

{Tip Junkie}

Love the CHEVRON wall print to jazz up the pantry area. Who says these sort of areas need to be bland?

{We Heart It}

Wallpaper or brightly paint the walls a fun color to spruce up the area…

Spring Cleaning Tips from Lonny Mag…

I know I’ve been talking about Spring cleaning a lot and showcasing closets but hey…what can I say. I’m a girl who loves fashion and what better way than to visually indulge in closets that I want but can’t quite have :-) . This above closet fabulousness is owned by friend in my head Khloe Kardashian. Below are tips from Lonny Mag that helps with organizing yours.

I love how they stress to use all the space your allotted. I spoke about that HERE. You want to use all vertical space to maximize storage. In case you missed the post from the other day with a good tip from Nate Berkus, click HERE.

Spring Cleaning: Closet Cleanup…

Ahhh the joys of Spring…knowing you have to clean up around your homes & have a fresh start (an excuse to shop for new after getting rid of the old).

{Canadian House & Home}

Here’s a good tip for you when figuring out what clothes to toss/donate and what to keep. Typically the rule of thumb is if you haven’t worn it in 6 months, get rid of it. An easy way to determine what you wear is all in the way you place your hangers. Place all clothes with the hanger back to front (forcing you to lift back and under to get the clothes). Then after you wear the item, place the hanger the normal way. After 6 months, any item still hung the original way gets the boot. Confused? Click HERE to see video footage from the Nate Berkus Show demonstrating what to do.
