Save space and make more usable floor room by installing pocket doors…

The fact that you will not need the clearance to open and close, will allow you more square footage for furniture and decorating. Truthfully it allows you more “living” space because pocket doors take up no space…

Beautiful details on the ceiling. Doors can easily close off an open floor plan making a dining more formal and less distracting if someone is in the other room….

That’s a nice multi-use space that can be closed off for studying or reading. If it were a traditional door, this room may not be able to have a desk area because of the clearance issue. So do you prefer sliding doors or pocket doors? Both save on space but different styles.

Tuesday Tips: When Your Dealing W/a Small Space…

{Apartment Therapy}

…sometimes it can be quite challenging how to design around it and have adequate storage. Not only that, you want the space to be stylish and have functionality at the same time. This room above is able to do just that.  My eyes were drawn directly to their use of the closet by turning it into an area for bunking, opening up the other square footage for living space. Not only that, two small storage ottomans (the lids lift) does double duty by working as additional seating if needed. The dining table has leaves (fold down sides) that allows more room when necessary but isn’t bulky when unused. I like how they removed the closet doors and added sliding privacy panels instead. Think this would work but still unsure it’s not enough room for clothes? Here’s some “space saver” options.

  • Risers for the bed…that way you can fit drawers and storage bins underneath
  • wardrobes…they have so many options now that look like nice pieces of furniture but they house clothing
  • storage bench…not just an ottoman, consider a long sofa length bench with a lid
  • wall shelving with baskets…keep the clutter contained
