Quick NYE decor ideas with these essentials

image

It’s almost that time. If you are a last minute decorator, head to your nearest dollar store now. With tissue paper, carboard, metallic sharpies, craft paper, scissors and glue, you can jazz up for a party relatively quickly. For starters, you get some washi tape and tape them around basic glasses. If you need more stemware, seriously….a dollar store will come in handy. Sharpies are great for writing your own slogans on black balloons. Pipe cleaners are excellent to bend and make crowns or jazz up drink stirrers. Cut tissue paper in fringe style for backdrops or DIY tassled banners. Tissue paper can also be used to make confetti.

You know those faux silver plated dollar store platters? Buy some. Nobody cares if it’s not real silver. People are too busy trying to get tipsy. They are disposable so you don’t have to worry about cleaning them up. They even have faux disposable china and utensils that elevates the look versus your typical paper products.  Even if you mix and mingle with white serving platters, it will still flow. Notice how they used the square Dollar Tree candle holders to give that platter some height? Buy some of those. If you entertain even a little bit, those square candle holders come in handy for so many things without breaking the bank. Get some. Dollar Tree also has their Christmas stuff 50% off. (yeah I know, I didn’t realize they had sales). Get some of the gold and silver oranments and stars to float and scatter around. They are cheap so if they break, who cares! I love this backdrop. You van easily hang black foam core boards or craft paper behind a table. Use the sharpies to freehand different fonts…

A few last minute Christmas ideas…

image

Sorry, meant to post yesterday but for you west coast people, maybe you can run and put powdered sugar around a man’s boot to look like footprints leaving the chimney or maybe you still have time to print out funny instagram and facebook pix for gifts in replace of nametags…
image

Maybe you can even set up a gingerbread house making station to keep kids occupied….not that they won’t be…. Whatever you do or don’t have time to do, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and if you don’t celebrate, hope you can at least enjoy a day off. Thanks for continued support and reading my little blog. That is your gift to me :-)

As a designer I pay attention to the details of everything. When one of the Kardashians instagrammed themselves in front of a stove, I think I was the only one who looked first at the backsplash. When I go to … Continue reading

Society Social’s fabulous styling + great tips on throwing a shindig…

Where have I been and why didn’t I know about the Society Social’sMagalog? The pictures and how each one is styled is on point. They have some really cool bar carts & decor pieces but the magazine idea is great. Love the leopard wallpaper and everything else in this pic above..

The also has great tips about throwing a party. Tips that I liked most include serving food in vertical arrangements to free up space and prevent tables from appearing messy. I guess this is similar to what my wedding clients had when one of their food stations consisted of mashed potatoes (or sweet potatoes) served in martini glasses. They had a potato bar with all the toppings and it looked so fun on the table. They also had little shot glasses of tomato soup w/a triangle slice of grilled cheese on top. Another thing that popped in my head when thinking of vertical food displays is this unique alternative to a veggie platter…

Another genius tip is to label drawers and cabinets for when guest can serve themselves. Everyone doesn’t have room to have it all displayed buffet style so when encouraging guests to help themselves, make it easier for them. That way they don’t have to hunt you down to figure out where the silverware is or open a bunch of doors showing messy storage when aiming to find glassware….

Graduation Party Ideas…

image

I went to my lil cousin’s high school graduation last night (he’s going to the Army) and it got me thinking of ways to decorate these celebrations. What better than using the books you bought (if in college) or get some for cheap at the Goodwill or borrow them from the library. If you buy, tear out the pages & make runners for the tables or stack them up along the wall as a backdrop to a food spread. Use books and ribbon to elevate heights of platters for the tablescape & stream some as a banner. Gather images from childhood to this moment or just the high school or college years and form the year they’re graduating on the wall. In this case it would be 12. It’s a great way to laugh and take a walk down memory lane…
