Operation masculine rustic sexiness for my rec room…

image

I know. That’s a lot of styles for one area but I have made up my mind and I want the basement area to have all of that. I want to stir away from any girly items that you will find elsewhere in my home. I want it to feel moody and regal, sexy like a cocktail lounge, but edited and purposeful like a modern bachelor pad. I want there to be rustic elements and raw materials like wood and metal. I want pieces I would put in a loft present. Again, that’s a lot but that’s what I want.

image

I have black leather sofas in the living room that’ll eventually make their way to the rec room…

image

image

I have recessed lighting down there but I do like the caged pendant look. You can never have too many light sources…

image

This is really the only area I want wood items in my home. I bought a studded wood framed mirror from AtHome that I will eventually hang. The wood matches perfectly with a floating ledge I bought at Menards. I also will keep an eye out for some metal and wood bar stools for bar.

image

I have a trunk that I was going to paint and place in my office but have decided to use it in the rec room as a side table…

image

One wall is a deeper blue hue which will likely get changed. I haven’t given much thought about paint. I know I want it to feel modern but not too dark. Gray is always a good choice for that…

image

Have you priced pool tables lately? I didn’t realize how expensive the are. I want one but no time soon.. .

image

I like decorating in 3s for a really modern look….

image

I know I used this image before but I have been keeping eyes open for cushions. I flipped two bookstands on their sides to use as seating in the mean time. I just want to place some long cushions on top. I would love some camel hued seating somewhere down there.

As far as rugs, apart of me wants something very plush and another part of me wants a faux cowhide like the ones at Z Gallerie but I’m undecided.

Remember when I blogged about putting chairs in odd corners?

image

I intially blogged about ways to make use of odd corners and featured the pic below. You can see that post here. Then I came across Coco & Kelley’s post showcasing the entire home. It’s dark and moody and the palette consists of just gray, white and black. The textures and layering allows the space to feel cozy and not become boring. It’s very masculine but fine for a woman too.

image

Then I saw the kitchen and realized I also blogged about that on my decorating with cutting boards post.

Lovely black gallery wall…

I love coming across home tours of rooms I’ve blogged about before. You can see all of the times it has happened in my Remember When archives.

Hotel Indulgences: The Ganesvoort NY

wpid-image002-93

So I have been meaning to blog about The Gansevoort Hotel in New York ever since watching The Kardashians take NYC. I remember drooling over the ginormous houndstooth chairs and the mix of patterns, textures and the glamorous look of … Continue reading

An eclectic white home tour that actually feels warm…

image

I like this home tour because it goes to show you that you can have white walls, white drapery and white cabinets and still create warmth with the materials, textures, and colors used for furniture and decor.

I love a dark and moody designed room….

image

I love this bedroom. The different patterns and textures all within the same color scheme makes it a nice moody retreat from the day. It reminds me a bit of the room Kim Kardashian is staying in at her mom’s while her home is being renovated. I don’t have pics but if you watch the show you know what I’m talking about. It’s tone on tone black and charcoal gray and I love the drama of it all.

The table is kinda creepy but I like the rest…

This moody booth with the single crystal pendant is probably in a cocktail lounge somewhere. It allows intimacy without any distractions from what’s happening in the rest of the place. I think that’s why I like a dark space. It feels like a cacoon of sorts.

image

Just because you have a dark space doesn’t mean color is removed. Here you can see the emerald contrasts nicely with the blue walls…

Do you enjoy a moody room?

So I’m looking for black and white photography

image

I am in love with architecture and skyline photograpy. I follow some amazing instagram accounts of photographers who capture some of my fav cities (Chicago) and I often see images I wish I could frame. It made me think how easier and cost effective it would be to tear apart a calendar and frame the pretty captures. Maybe I can blow up my own camera snapshots and have them printed in black and white too…
