Tuesday’s Tips: how to transition your patio for fall

image

It’s starting to become crisp at night and you may be more inclined to stay inside once the sun starts to set. Well here are a few ways to get more use out of your patio for the fall months.

Texture
Adding a few cable knit or plaid throws are great to keep warm when it gets a bit chilly. Plus they are perfect for cozying up to take in an outdoor movie…

Firepit
They are good in the summer to create ambience but even better in the fall when you can roast smores on the fire…

Lighting
As the days grow shorter and shorter you will rely more and more on lighting. String lights will still look cool at all times of the year but heat lamps create light and keep you toasty…

Decor
Swap out any bright summary hues for muted, rustic, & jeweled tones.  Also replace floral blooms for branches and autumn leafy garland…

Eastside NY townhouse with beautiful molding and details…

The hardwood floors and molding is what stands out for me in this gorgeous space.  The lighting selected, lacquered painted walls and calming color palette makes it very inviting…

The pattern at the edge of the wooden floors are some of the design elements that makes the spaces pop. This arched entry and ornate details gives the townhome character….

Boutique Indulgences: Five Hearts in Milwaukee

image

Two weeks ago I went browsing the Third Ward area of downtown Milwaukee (which is home to bars, shops, cafes, luxury condos and the river). My consin noticed Five Hearts first which shares a lobby with a salon. Upon entry was a console table of brochures and things happening in the area. Then we walked in…

An industrial designed clothing boutique for women. Super cute clothes, friendly staff and just a nice vibe overall. We were told that the name came from the owners five daughters….hence….five hearts.

I really liked all of the storage units…

A feminine Bathroom Design

image

I created a bathroom in a simple white and gray palette with silver and mercury glass accents. I opted for a decorative mirror versus a medicine cabinet. It’s one of the easiest way to update bathroom and something I blogged about here. I wanted shine and a hint of sparkle with classic designs like the floor mat which looks like marble. A pedestal vanity with space to hold some pretty decorative perfume bottles was a must. I can’t stand a pedestal sink that barely has room for anything other than soap. To continue with the feminine vibe I went for a beautiful lace shower curtain. The marble modern clock echos the mat and marble sink. I really like this space. You can find the items I selected for the collage here.

New showroom in the New York Design Center area..

image

Jamie Herzlinger is at it again with the opening of a new showroom in the New York Design Center area. There you will find Studio E wallpaper, fabulous antiques from Linda Horn and stunning antique lighting from Carlos de la Puente. The best part is they have introduced Jamie’s custom furniture line, that is all handmade in America! To find high quality items made in this country is a big deal. I recently blogged about this gorgeous zebra stool that was designed by Jamie herself.

This desk is simply amazing. Very futuristic and architectural…
