If you have room, place a console table or bench at the edge of your bed…

A very romantic room above. Really makes me want to create diy roman shades. I know tons of people spend a lot of time in their sleeping space. Not only that, I often see images of interiors where there is a ton of dead space in front of the bed. To me, this is the opportunity to add additional furniture. Either a console table that can double as a desk, or a bench where you can put shoes on in the morning. Need more storage? Consider putting a luggage trunk. If you have even more room, a small sofa will be lovely with a coffee table in front and an armoire housing a tv. It can be a private space to catch up on the news and sip some coffee before getting ready for the days activities. I just feel a room is more complete with something at the foot of the bed….

Lovely black and white. Bold but not overpowering.

This argyle styled headboard is ultra fabulous to me. I like the glossy finish of the footboard. Soft purples are relaxing and calming…

So glam with a rug that makes you wanna sink your toes into. Love the lacquered and gold coffee table, the textured grasscloth wallpaper and the shape of the headboard…

Masculine, streamlined, tailored and very stylish. This could be so coastal chic if there were sheer white fabric draped over the bed…

So which would you prefer: a desk, console/coffee table with chairs, a sofa loveseat, some sort of storage unit like baskets or a trunk, or a bench/ottoman?

Reader Show-Off: Nikki fr L.A. gives us the breakdown on creating glossy lacquered painted floors…

I absolutely love getting emails from readers who have design questions or want to show me something they think I’ll like. Case in point: Nikki from L.A. who first wanted suggestions on what to do with their floor after carpeting was pulled up. Here is the result….

As told by Nikki…

Here are some pictures of our project. Your website is so inspirational, as you can see that my husband and I were willing to work very hard. The inspiration drove us to complete this project, which gave me muscles where I did not know there were. Ha.

Here is the picture of the finished floor in the dining room. We are moving to the living room now and wanted to send you our process:

Boutique Indulgences: Tory Burch (worldwide)

I came across a few images of Tory’s boutiques on Pinterest and I used one HERE but it prompted me to search for more images. From New York to London, all the stores are heavily glammed out in gold, plush textiles, structural shelving units, shaded chandeliers and sconces & reflective & LACQUERED finishes. I love the vibrant hues and everything about the spaces.

New Lonny Mag is Out! My Fav Pic? Lacquered Cabinetry

The new issue of the online mag LONNY is out & this pic really captured my attention. I dig the lacquered look a lot. Previously I did a post on using the high gloss paint on FLOORS & one on WALLS but cabinetry and furniture are other areas where the look can be achieved. I also like the butcher block countertops. It’s a cool alternative to granite that you see prevalent in interiors and the contrast of the black paint works beautifully with it. To see more from the issue, click HERE.

Glossy Lacquered Painted Walls…

{Christina Murphy Interiors}

Since I did a High Gloss Painted Floors post I figured I would do one on walls as well. Ever since my all time fav singer Mariah Carey appeared on cribs & displayed her shiny hallway walls (a process she called “glazing” to make it look like candy), I’ve always had a fondness of lacquered finishes. As mentioned before, using a gloss paint will give you a deep saturated color.

There are some negatives. Anything with sheen shows defects very well so any sort of impurities in the drywall, uneven surfaces, etc will be magnified vs if you were using a flat. However, using eggshell or semi gloss minimizes the amount of imperfections you see. But how beautiful is it to look at? I love everything about the room above. The white really stands out against the blue and it isn’t too stark. It’s filled with so much furniture but is space planned so well that it’s not cluttered…
