Color Schemes: Black, White & Gold

It’s been a while since I’ve done a color scheme post & figured this was a great one. It’s actually the colors of my elementary school (yeah Sherman Multi-Cultural Arts in Milwaukee!!). It’s a very powerful palette. When you see these colors you think of Egyptians & Kings & Queens & Gold…

The Fresh Airyness of White Drapery…

{HGTV’s Rate My Space User}

With Spring being here a lot of us are finding ways to brighten up our homes and easy ways of having color. One way is to change our drapery especially those of us who live in colder climates & have take advantage of thermal kind. There’s something very airy and fresh about white window treatments. It may not work well with all color schemes but it looks good in these. Indulge…

Glammed Out Modern Indulgences…

I’d live here!! With metallic sheens and finishes, tons of chrome, glass & reflective details, this space is exactly what I would want if I lived in a modern penthouse somewhere. To me, all of these photos from this space is indulge worthy. Enjoy…

Color Connection: Black & White w/Icy Blue Hues…

{Recycled Cosign & Design}

I like unexpected accent colors when designing black and white spaces and this icy blue hue is a pretty compliment. Ever since I did the post on BAMBOO FURNITURE, I always see them in other interiors. Kind of like when you buy a new car and you don’t really see much of it until after  you’ve bought it. Then all of a sudden everybody has the same car!! SideNote: You can click on links to anything in this post or others that’s in all caps & underlined. It’s basically other posts I’ve done about said underlined topic…

{House of Turquoise}

Black & White bathrooms can be kind of cold and although I would not want this for myself personally, I can appreciate the classic approach with the floor & SUBWAY TILE

{Designed by Diane Bergeron}

I love this little seating area. The CHEVRON print rug on top of BLACK FLOORS, black lamp shaded chandelier, the white piping on the sofa, massive window & the Ikat & MOORISH patterned pillows is giving me everything. You know already how I feel about TRAYS and this snake skin one is a very stylish one…

Friday’s Fabulous Floors: Concrete…

{vithouse.com}

Concrete flooring is a naturally durable material and it never needs replacement. It’s easy to clean & maintain & allergy friendly. From an aesthetic standpoint, the shiny surfaces of a stained concrete floor makes for a great base as seen in the pics of this post. I really like the taupe details of the first pic. It’s so contemporary & interesting to look at.

My Obsession w/Black Continues: Charcoal Walls…

{Delight by Design}

Once dubbed as depressing and gothic is now becoming all the rage in interior design. So KNOW that I’m thrilled to see my favorite color played up on wall space. One may think it’s too dark and heavy but indulge in the pics of this post for a minute and see if you change your mind. You may not be ready for it but someone else is & fabulous rooms have been created because of it. Take the first example. That room is all sorts of sexy. Creating a border with mirrors? Genius…

{The Glam Lamb}

The gold art really picks up the grains of the wood floors & pops with the black walls. I love how streamlined the look is when art is paired up in rows of 3s. See more in my Pictures Done in Multiples post. Painting the backs of the bookshelves in gray prevents the black accessories from disappearing. I also like the selection of pillows and incorporating a camel color for the chairs…

I had a visualgasm at the sight of this tufted zebra gorgeous chair. Yall know I like my zebra stuff as much as black. I need it in my life. I can completely imagine how comfortable this must be. If you look in the mirrored reflection, you’ll see another standout piece that is the lucite desk table. And the porky pine spiked details brings a little bit of whimsy to the space…

Airy window treatments and multiple light sources (wall sconces, ceiling fixture and lamp) will  keep this room from being too dark. A few splashes of color from the pillows, books & orchid brings in some spunk. Though I’d love to see a few more accessories on the desk in fuchsia…

{Made by Girl}

Granted, this is a dark space but I still like it and I especially LOVE the way the photos line the mantel. This is the way you can display family photos without looking dated. Simply use same frame colors and same mat & sepia toned or black and white pics and viola. Other modern ideas on family portraits found in my Wall Art Inspiration Dos and Donts post…

Chandelier Obsessions…

I like the feminine touches to a rugged room. Something about this pic above seems so unplanned but stylish at the same time.

A Vintage Glam Space…

I was not going to sleep tonight until I found this woman’s house. I watch the Nate Berkus show on dvr religiously. Granted, by the time I get free time, I’m usually watching multiple episodes at a time. With that said, it was exactly the case this wknd when he had a woman on who submitted photos of her place. I am not even a vintage kind of girl. Actually I’m eclectic modern with global influences kind of girl. My living room has contemporary styles mixed in with some traditional & it has African, animal print decor pieces. My bedroom is Moroccan in deep plums and cranberry hues. My bathroom is peach & ivory with seashells and shore elements. All my furniture is black as it’s my fav color. However nothing is decorated the way I envision because….student loans are due! LOL

 When Lizzie Carney showcased her home on the HOUSE PROUD segment of his show, it truly shows you how one can create a nice space on a budget. Most of her finds were from thrifting. Who would have thunk it. She specifically stated that the bedroom (1st pic) was created by using multiple shades of gray sheets, hanging a rod on one wall and creating a textured look by hanging drapery from it. Combined with the slick charcoal & blush combo, a tufted headboard and chandelier, I think she made a super glammed out vintage romantic room…

She decided to turn a room into a dressing room as opposed to a guest space. I love the tufted, skirted ottoman in the middle of the floor with racks of clothes & crystal light fixture. One thing shown that I admire for any home is a super large decorative framed mirror. So gorgeous. Hanging garments makes this feel like a vintage boutique….

Floating shelves help house additional storage like spices, dishes etc.  I’m not the pink person but I do like the pops of pink and teal through out this kitchen. Click HERE to see the video from the Nate Berkus Show. This definitely made me want to go out to the Goodwill to see what finds I could make new again with paint, etc. Estate sales and rummage (garage) sales are also cool ways to find some neat stuff. You just have to have the right frame of mind for hunting (because most times, I’d rather just buy from Pier1 or Marshalls). However nothing beats a home that actually has character.

What are some treasures you discovered from thrifting?

Color Connection: the Domino Effect…

This is a black and white interior design filled post. Yep, straight to the point :-) I like the way the risers of the steps were painted white, creates a cool effect for the stairs. And the railing is slick.

{decorology.blogspot.com}

This goes to show you, you can utilize any space in a room. One stool provides enough space for a person to eat at the breakfast bar pretty much making it an eat in kitchen. The other added space is for a home office area. Most people would have left this space undefined but here, the designer maximized all areas.

{besttopdesign.com}

An older home with detailed architecture in the moldings, etc but it feels modern by having a black/white color scheme. You don’t see too many black painted trim work so I think this was a cool unexpected touch. The black floors are fabulous too. Continue reading for lots more pics.

Color Connection: Gray…

Gray, a color often used for formality,  is a cool calming color that is neutral enough to be paired with any other accent. I personally love to see gray combined with purples, mustards, or white. Gray & white color schemes are so relaxing to me especially in bathrooms. It creates a spa kind of feel that’s soothing. I’ve compiled many examples of for you so indulge…

Above is a beautifully white stylized lacquer desk with other contemporary pieces like the chrome chair & geometrical shaped wallpaper. Below has accents of gray with damask wallpaper framed, the drapery and rug.

I’m really fond of displaying books with the same colors as the room…

{Drake Design Associates}

This modern space is a great office design. Who wouldn’t want to work in here? Now if you are anything like me, you wondered what the tower was in the background. Well, look below.

It’s a tower of books. How friggin cool is this? Very innovative. I’ve never seen anything like this before but it’s genius. I would try something like this but on a much smaller scale, lol.
