Monday Morning Inspiration 6.1.15

image

I love art displays with mixtures of wrapped canvases and large mats. I have compiled a small collection of pictures from magazines I want to put in my closet. I find fun in thrifting pretty frames too so I can’t wait to have enough where I can start hanging them…

image

This quote is very real for me as I’ve experienced someone that seems like they.just.cannot  compliment my work. This is a person I share projects with because I am passionate about it, not to brag. I share genuine interests in what my friends do so I expect the same. Maybe that’s my problem and no….everyone won’t like your work but it’s really odd when some people never have anything nice to say. When the compliment is backhanded or laced with shade. When their replies are dry and vague…sometimes I debate even sharing with them. I’ve had people say they can do what I do when it comes to party styling because they don’t want to pay for your services and then their party happens…..you realize they can’t. I’ve been told “I’m creative too” when someone didn’t want my services and then kept asking my opionion and wanting ideas. Thought you’re also creative? Not as if I need to feel validations because my client’s approval is all that matters. However I am content with my womanhood enough to share joys in what brings happiness to friends/associates.  I can compliment hair, outfits, portfolios and not think twice about it. I will never understand people who may like something but won’t let YOU know it. It’s always going to be someone bitter about something so they refuse to give you kudos.  Don’t let those people stop your show.

What are characteristics of your ideal bar stool?

image

Some like ’em modern with clean lines or unique with odd interesting shapes, some prefer natural earthy wood materials while many like the industrial metal styles. Some love the cafe style while others need one with a back. I like them all from upholstered to masculine ones but lately I’ve really been wanting metals stools. There are so many fun styles and you don’t need a cocktail bar to use a stool. If you have a bar height dining table, you can use them on one side for a different loo,a breakfast bar, the laundry room counter, etc. I also like them used outside under a thin ledge for drinks or against a back wall for additional seating or to balance an entry vignette by filling space.

My semi done DIY computer table turned bar cart

image

Over the weekend my client canceled so I was able to start a project around the house. That project is my old computer desk that has rollers. I figured some adhesive marble paper and gold paint could give it new life. Before I moved last month, I put the marble on the top and keyboard tray area. I really like how the metallic gold looks now with everything

image

I still have to finish the bottom obviously but once I do, I will do a post about it. I also have to style it better. This is a “mean time” sorta display. I am having company over Saturday and plan to have it all finished!

image

image

Of course, bottles of vodka and wine will be present soon. Right now they are cooling in the ‘fridge. 🍷 I will keep you posted when it’s finished.

Just some pretty interiors…

image

Such a pretty living room space. This post is simply pretty interiors..

image

image

I love a dark bedroom. I find them to be a comforting way to retreat for the night and it has a luxe hotel feel. I like the bones of this bed and the plush material…

image

This bathroom tub area encompasses so much glamour…

image

image

I really enjoy seeing the covers of books displayed on a wall on picture ledges. Stacking books pyramid style is cool and all but this way allows you to enjoy the beauty of colors. It can also give you inspiration on color choices…

Design Takeaways: Go Bold or Go Home…

image

I admire designers who can convince a homeowner to go bold with walls and ceilings. A lot of people shy away from it because of the labor and time it takes to change it all back if the look isn’t what they wanted. I understand that but wow…what a statement if you take the risk.

image

Going bold can also hide imperfections and take the focus away from eyesores. I think any major boldness I would do would be limited to small scales like a closet. What about you?

Tuesday’s Tips: Don’t throw it out…just add gold!

image

There are so many craigslist postings filled with crap or things collecting dust in your garage that can easily be revamped with gold. Whether you spray paint or gold leaf, adding the metallic hue can give new life to lots of things. Here are some of my favs from my Pinterest DIY board. Above is a gold leaf Ikea hack via The Hunted Interior.

image

I see these stools all of the time online and after seeing this, I may just scoop some up…

Dream a Little Bigger really changed the look of this dated chair…

image

Iron on letters and quotes can change any plain pillow as seen on The Shabby Creek Cottage

image

I love lamp shades with color inside and this diy project via Cohesive Randomness turned out fab.

image

This is by far my favorite. I love this diy gold leaf painted globe. If they painted the stand gold too it really would have set this off. See the deets on Love and Renovations.

Love it when I come across something different in design…

image

Too much white white white in rooms for my taste. I love a bold color scheme or at least a bold lively area of a home. This above I love! This vignette is so inspiring. It makes me want to take a wall with the shortest width and paint something like this or at least paint it on a very large scale canvas. The table, the extreme modern neon lamp, the accessories, and the mirror are all so funky and fun…

image

Love the floor, the art and the colors of the walls in here. Would I want it for a daily basis? No. However this would be fun to do in a guest room…

image

So many takeaways that I like in this space. The materials in the room from the flooring to the brass gold stools is all very complimentary…

A glamorous home full of gorgeous light fixtures…

image

I saw this home office and immediately added it to my computer’s background. There isn’t much in terms of a lot of decor but the decor present makes a lot of impact. First, my love of black continues with a wall treatment done soley by using painters tape and a combination of flat and semi gloss paint in the same color. See more examples here. It’s so precise that it looks like wallpaper. The gold really contrasts nicely and that console table is stunning.  The use of a glass desk allows the beauty of the rug to show through as well as keep the room light and airy and prevents a heavy feeling which is important when using dark colors in smaller areas. Lastly the lamps and fixture are very nice pieces as well….

image

Then we have this entryway with a beautiful rug similar to this one which can easily hide dirt and a skirted console table which probably hides eyesores. You can see how a skirted table does that here

image

Unsure if this is navy or teal but the color is pretty and the white molding looks nice against it. I just love dark rooms. Some people find them depressing but it’s the selection of everything else that matters. When you use light drapery or bedding and have adequate lighting, it can create a nice moody feel that isn’t somber at all…

Fab gold finishes from Kohler in this bathroom reno

image

Have you seen Erin’s bathroom remodel? It is fabulous. I love the herringbone floor and classic subway tile but what sets it off is the Modern French Gold finishes from Kohler. I live in Milwaukee and I secretly cheer whenever I see a Wisconsin based company get used and recognize for their products and services.

image

If this isn’t all sorts of glam…

Amazing. Something about the gold that gives it that oompth that silver metals wouldn’t do.

Shopping with PinkLion for the holidays…

image

A while back I was introduced to PinkLion which is a company that curates products from  independent brands to bring you a seletion of modern, crafty essentials. I was gifted a print by Latte Design in my favorite theme: coffee. Anyone who knows me knows I live for my Dunkin Donuts and McCafe coffee beverages.

image

At first I thought I would style it in the kitchen and create a small coffee station similar to these but all of my art in my office/den is black and white so I figured I would place it there.

image

Excuse the quality of pictures. I took them with my Galaxy S5 but the outdoor lighting sucked that day. It was gloomy, either snowy or rainy, for days.
