Pt 2: You put art where? The bathroom…

image

In case you missed the first of a four part installment, this is a mini series on places to put art. So many people think they don’t have wall space but in this series you may be inspired to hang art in areas of the home you never thought about. Take a look at these bathrooms with a variety of art subjects…not just seashells which is typical.

Softsoap’s new decor collection of handsoap…

image

I love smell goods and products that have good fragrances. From perfumes, candles, shower gels and soaps. So I was happy when the people of Colgate-Palmolive reached out to me about trying their new decor collection of handsoaps. For me, I like anything that has an elevated look with packaging. Sometimes I have to make sure I don’t buy soley on how it looks but also the quality of the actual product. The Softsoap bottles are cute enough to keep in the original packaging…

image
I kept the orchid petals & mint water bottle in the bathroom because of the blue accents matched the decor and the smell was fresh…

The wild basil & lime is actually my favorite. I kept that in the kitchen because I tend to clean with citrus smelling items. Since that blend is food related, I figured it would be perfect for the kitchen. You can get yours at Target, CVS, Rite Aid or any large food store.

Softsoap handsoaps were gifted to me from Colgate-Palmotive but the review is my honest opinion of a brand I’ve been using for years.

8 ways to add Spring additions to your home…

image

1 Art
It’s a great starting point to pull color hues and figure out what direction you want to go. Buy some new prints from Etsy shops or purchase some affordable wrapped canvas art from Target.

2 Umbrella Holders
It is after all, Spring, so you will need a place at the entry way to store wet umbrellas. Tall floor vases will also do the trick.

3 Pillows
Probably THEE cheapest way to inject color and transform a living room or bedroom area. Colorful toss pillows can really liven a space. Pier 1 and World Market are two of my favorite places to pillow shop but Tjmaxx, Marshalls and Home Goods are the type of places where you can really get a bang for your buck. I often see pillows tied together in twos for $19/29.

4 Baskets
I love baskets for magazines and blankets or even used for toys.

5 Garden Stools
Now is the time you will see ceramic stools everywhere. I’m glad because I passed up a few opportunities to get nice ones for only $39 at Tjmaxx/Marshalls but lately I’ve been seeing them popping up so in due time. I like them as side tables. They offer a pop of color but the stability for holding drinks.

New showroom in the New York Design Center area..

image

Jamie Herzlinger is at it again with the opening of a new showroom in the New York Design Center area. There you will find Studio E wallpaper, fabulous antiques from Linda Horn and stunning antique lighting from Carlos de la Puente. The best part is they have introduced Jamie’s custom furniture line, that is all handmade in America! To find high quality items made in this country is a big deal. I recently blogged about this gorgeous zebra stool that was designed by Jamie herself.

Design Inquiries: winning the purple bedroom battle with your husband…

image

I received an email from a woman who really wanted a purple and gray bedroom but had difficulty convincing her husband of the color scheme. Here are my ideas on winning this battle. First, when people hear purple they think Barney or lavendar and other really girly tones. However any trip to a local hardware store will show you the many ranges purple has. Look at the paint swatches and decide from there. They aren’t there to only help with paint selections as you can use the swatches to pick the overall color scheme of the room…

My $6 thanksgiving decor for a beverage station

image

I wanted to create a real tablescape but I only have a desk in my place. I don’t have a real dining table because my den area is my office. That could have been a dining room but I would rather have a room for something useful. So after thinking, I figured if I did entertain I would have food in the kitchen but a beverage station could easily go on the desk. So I used items from around the home….like I would have to do if it were an impromptu shindig. I did however use $6 worth of dollar section Targetcraft stuff.

I used the same oversized martini glass from the burlesque party for Thanksgiving convo starters. You can add whatever questions you want but here are a couple of mine.

Vintage kitchen menu DIY inspirations

image

When I saw this on Fabric Paper Glue I immediately thought about recreating this for my kitchen. I currently don’t have any art in my galley styled kitch so this would be cute and simple.

image

Love to see menus at weddings in chalkboard or windowpanes….
image

Vintage menu signage adds some fun to a kitchen. It reminds me of grits and eggs and country eating like at Cracker Barrel.
image

Framing vintage prints in a clean frame with a mat can keep the look more modern. Which is why I passed up the window pane glass frame at the Goodwill. I didn’t want too country of a look for my menu which is why I love how clean the one in my inspiration looks. So since it’s going yo be really cold this weekend, I should be able to share how thia turned out come Monday. Stay tuned. Are you tackling any home projects this wknd? Do share!
