Here is a color combination you don’t see often in kids rooms: black and white. Is this too adult for you or do you like it with a punch of color?

Using graphic patterns and designs can make the space fun for a child and not too serious….

Decorating with wood cutting boards…

Cutting boards can double for function and decor or art….

image

Dip dye them for a fun DIY and hang an assortment in a gallery wall style..

Layer with canisters and lean against the backsplash…

I love the molding details with the classic subway tile and minimal bulb pendant. The cutting board is the same stain as the wood on the chair legs and floor…

I like the cutting boards sold at Marshalls because they are affordable and come in a variety of stains and designs.

Tuesday’s Tips: how to transition your patio for fall

image

It’s starting to become crisp at night and you may be more inclined to stay inside once the sun starts to set. Well here are a few ways to get more use out of your patio for the fall months.

Texture
Adding a few cable knit or plaid throws are great to keep warm when it gets a bit chilly. Plus they are perfect for cozying up to take in an outdoor movie…

Firepit
They are good in the summer to create ambience but even better in the fall when you can roast smores on the fire…

Lighting
As the days grow shorter and shorter you will rely more and more on lighting. String lights will still look cool at all times of the year but heat lamps create light and keep you toasty…

Decor
Swap out any bright summary hues for muted, rustic, & jeweled tones.Β  Also replace floral blooms for branches and autumn leafy garland…

My DIY art idea using a pillowcase

image
.
Over the weekend I finally decided to put to use some picture frames I bought at JoAnn Fabric. I knew I wanted to take up some wall space in my bedroom and since it has a slight Moroccan influence, I figured I could use a beaded pillowcase I bought from Summerfest as art. Below is the simple tutorial…

First I cut the fabric slightly larger than needed so that I could tape the excess on the back of the mat….

Just a blush, black & gray collage…

image

I made a collage using a blush, gray, black & white color scheme and mixed different styles for seating. Adding a throw of sorts to any caged seating makes it more comfortable and withstanding the use of sofa or dining sets adds interest. Try swapping out the head chairs of a formal dining area or adding a bench to one side of the table. Mixing tables or lamps can also keep a space eclectic. The goal in design is to make a space feel collected over time and not bought in one store.
