Lucy and Company Portfolio full of color and pattern play

image

I came across Lucy and Company portfolio and spent a good 20 minutes admiring the work of that talented team last night and probably another 20 minutes this morning. Every room feels staged but not in a stuffy way. The homes feel comfortable and relaxing. What I like the most is the different uses of texture, color, & patterns. It makes the spaces interesting. You can tell heavy attention was paid to the details like the lighting, hardware and finishes as well as rugs and seating. Here are a few of my favs but you really need to browse their portfolio to see more.

The company started when there wasn’t a high end children’s design source in the Charlotte area. After tackling kids rooms, the company progressed to offer services for entire homes…

Shark jaws, animal skulls, mineral rocks & fossil decor

image

A couple weeks ago I went to a coworker’s house party and one of their relatives collects small animal skulls, artifacts & minerals like geode. Ever since then I’ve been seeing them as decor at places like TJ Maxx and Ashley’s Furniture advertisments. This isn’t anything new but I think I may have to go back and get the mini dino head below.

I would spray paint it gold or stark white…

I think these little objects strike up interesting convos as well as create dimension for a vignette…

Love the agate drawer pulls and lamp…

Not exactly sure where Jessica bought her faux turtleshell but Nate Berkus used to sell some Target.

Tuesday’s Tips: curtain panels for bathroom showers

image

I am moving in a little over a month and will have three bathrooms to decorate so I’m trying to find inspiring ideas. I have always loved the modern take on the old school curtain look for the shower. Nowadays people are using grommet curtain panels, raising the rod near the ceiling and having panels puddle to the floor. I really love this idea but I think I want to use clips to hold the fabric instead of grommets. For fact, I will have two panels….just need to zero down on fabric.

image

Something very enveloping and comforting happens when there are two panels. Simply use a tension rod to hang the liner and move it to one side so you don’t see it. A fabric that blends in with the tile is very chic…

Painted ornate mirrors…

image

So I have always had a thing for old ornate mirrors. I love the details of the wood and really like oompth given to them by paint. I have been looking and looking and hoping to stumble on one while thrifting and I finally did. Keep reading for my very own transformation…

Using a mirror at a wedding or event and having the seating chart or menu on it, is such a beautiful idea…

So several weeks ago I found this $14 mirror from the Goodwill. I was so excited because it’s rather large. I used to think I would have a gold mirror but then decided I wanted something bold. So I painted it with Martha Stewart high gloss acrylic craft paint in Indigo and it came out like this….

image
First I replaced the art with striped wrapping paper that was suppose to be temporary. Then I decided to keep it and add chalkboard paint on the glass.
image
I am in the process of moving so disregard the vase branches behind the frame. I kind of like the messy look of it but I may end up painting all of the glass. Seeing the wrapping paper under the chalkboard is cool to me. I think I will put this over my bar cart for drink recipes or a festive message for company.

There are other house plants other than a fiddle leaf…

image

I love the design community but often times popular home tours pave the way for a bunch of copy cat designs. Which isn’t a problem however I am sick of seeing the popular fiddle leaf plant that everyone has. Nice plant but there are so many others you can pick too. I personally love agave plants though you mostly see those outdoors. I also really like most cacti and exotic tropical leafy plants like the petticoat palms.

image

I like a nice potted floor plant but my cat likes to chew on my faux palm tree so I can’t imagine owning one. If you have pets, you have to be sure the leaves aren’t poisonous…

Random retail therapy finds and decor indulgences…

I started this post days ago but of course wordpress was trippin’ and it didn’t save. Anyhoo, these gorgeous floor vases were at Pier 1 and would look nice in several areas of my home.

This lamp would be a side table’s piece of jewelry. You can’t tell but the inside of the lamp was a deep plum color. Very pretty….

Ways to decorate for the holidays outside of a Christmas tree…

image

I didn’t put up a tree this year but I did do some tabletop decor, a wreath and garland. I also have lights around my tv stand and towers. There are so many ways you can still be festive without putting up a tree and this post will inspire you. First up, if you have a mantel, you can easily buy garland. The fresh smell of real greenery will give your home the holiday aromas.

image

image
Next you can still use your favorite ornaments just put them in clear vases, apothecary jars, bowls etc. Use shoe boxes to create presents and leave them around. Bonus points if the wrapping matches the color scheme…

I just think the mannequin was too cute and clever. .

Simple wreaths hung by ribbon can make just as much of a statement as one adorned with ornaments and less work…

Did ya know TJMaxx now offers online shopping?

tjmaxx

This isn’t a sponsored post it’s just TJ Maxx is a store I’ve loved since working there as a teen. I worked there a year in the service desk area doing returns my freshmen year of college. Once I started having clients, it has been one of my go-to stores for affordable, pretty, and unique decor items. You can buy a whole room filled with stuff from TJ Maxx and it won’t feel as if you shopped at one place and it won’t break your budget. What I love most is the fact that you can get sizeable mirrors for under $40. I’m talking mirrors big enough to swap out and replace over bathroom vanities like you see in this post. They have nice rugs, chic pet bowls & stuff, drapery, a lot of cool end tables and chairs.  Another thing I love is the brand named faux fur throws and pillows and often times they are under $20 like the ones in my collage. I don’t know about you but my clients are not trying to spend $400 on two pillows. So if you’re in a budget, or simply want more bang for you buck without compromising style, head over to your nearest TJMaxx or online.
