Get the look for less on Khloe’s home…

image
When I posted a few favorite rooms from Khloe and Kourtney’s homes yesterday, I immediately thought of some of my favorite stores (Pier 1 and World Market) and how they have merchandise full of global and cultural furniture and dรฉcor. You can create a similar look with exotic finds by shopping the links below. I sourced other affordable items from AtHome, ZGallerie, High Fashion Home, Lamps Plus, Rugs USA, & Kirklands as well. Purchase vases with metallic sheens, mother-of-pearl and mosaic details.ย This will add some oomph to a white room…

Create a neutral color scheme by making it interesting with different textures like faux furs, tweed, velvet, plush microfibers in the pillows and throws…

Use patterns like ikat in fabric choices and rugs. Also incorporate high piled shag rugs for a luxe feel…

Tuesday’s Tips: use canvas artwork to hide unsightly light switches etc

image

These are not the best quality of pictures but this is how I decided to hide a light switch and temperature controller in my hallway. I purchased these wrapped canvas beauties from AtHome. By positioning them right over the eyesores, I now don’t have to see them. It also allows me to hang art exactly where I wanted. If I hung around the thermostat, the art wouldn’t have been centered with the wall. It just would have created an odd look. However it was brought to my attention that your thermostat may not work efficiently being covered from the circulating airflow. So do this at your own discretion.

The depths of canvases allow for protruding switches and knobs of a circuit breaker door to be hidden seamlessly.

Target’s wooden ski ornaments…

image
I noticed a lot of instagrammers are using the wooden ski ornaments in their Christmas decor found in Target’s dollar section. I have it too and this is how I styled mine.

My Christmas Home Tour Sneak Peak

image

Hello. I had another post in mind for today but will do it tomorrow instead. Here are a couple sneak peaks of how I decorated at home. I have a few more things to do though and when the weekend is here and it’s some sunny natural light, I will take pictures and share.

Home Life: My accessory table pt 2 + Unhinge Hardware collabo

image

Yesterday I showed you what I done with my accessory table. In case you missed it, click here. Today I’m giving a few more details. I collaborated with Unhinge Hardware to have an area by my table for hanging shirts or outfits of the day. This is in an effort to get myself to be a bit more consistent with preparing for work the night before…

image

What I like to do more than anything is figure out what jewerly I will pair with what shirt. I hate getting ready in the morning and putting on an outfit and realizing my jewelry is all wrong. Seriously, I am big on jewelry and need to start figuring all of that out in the night so that I can get up and out the house in 30/40mins…

image

I used Unhinge Hardware’s Soho rope hook. I sometimes buy things that are so pretty, I simply want to look at it. That’s how I felt about this mermaid hued sequin cropped top from H&M that I pair with a sheer peplum for coverage. When I don’t have clothes hanging, I will simply add a few everyday scarves or my purse…

image

Under the table I have blurred dirty clothes and pretty laundry baskets which I bought at Marshalls. I really want to put a chair here or two small ottomons one day but in the mean time, the laundry baskets fill up the space…

Always have a sheepskin rug somewhere. Mine came from.TJMaxx and the table from Ikea

image

The orchid picture and vases also came from TJ Maxx but the small painting I done myself at Splash Milwaukee, a wine & paint bar…

Retail Therapy: AtHome Milwaukee is now open!

image

So this week AtHome opened here in Milwaukee (Wauwatosa’s old Kmart on Hwy 100) and I am in love. I have been following them on instagram for sometime so when I drove by and saw we were getting one, I was beyond excited. My coworker stopped there this week and told me she spent 2 hours in there. All I wondered is how is it possible to spend that long in a store that’s not Ikea. Then I went….

image

Yesterday I stopped in and they had cake slices and coffee since it was their 100th store opening.  I went down 75% of the store bypassing most of the Christmas aisle because….it’s not Thanksgiving yet.

image

They had some awesome pieces of furniture like sidetables, plant stands and small dressers…

image

It was the art section that killed me. When the lady told us “wait until you get to the art side”, she wasn’t lying.

image

So we walked down aproximately 10 aisles looking at art, decorative letters, clocks, metal and mirrors and wrapped canvases for 20 mins…

image

image

I mean….it was overwhelming in the most lovely possibly way. They had every metal whether gold, silver, gunmetal etc and every style you can think of….

image

They had art that would make cool headboards. The wood plank one in the upper left would make for a great statment in a rustic room especially if doubled on top for a tall bed backdrop…

image

I love skyscrapers so I scooped up this large canvas for only $49. Here I was, walking with mom thinking I scored when I looked around the corner….

image

We weren’t done with the art section! There was at least another 12 aisles or so more to browse….

image

Then we got to the end and turned the corner to see another 6 aisles or so of smaller pictures, blank frames & kids art. It was insane. It’s impossible not to find SOMETHING. As a matter of fact, you may have a hard time deciding what to put back…

image

I went home with one of the pink stylized tables. The black ones were $14 & $19! The prices were so good here…

image

You have to go toward the outdoor section too because a lot of the tables there can easily be incorporated inside the home. Tables as low as $39, $49 & up.

image

Now these were more pricey but I love the boxwood options for patio privacy…

image

I will be going back to get one of these. I have always loved potted topiaries and they look good inside the home as well as on the porch. The best part? They’re faux so no worries about killing them and having to maintain the shape!

image

Can we talk about pillows? I love them as much as the next girl but I can’t spend my client’s budget on two pillows for $300. I’d rather go to retail places and mix to create a cool look. AtHome has several color coded aisles of pillows and a lot were only $12.

The Balmain & H&M collab can inspire decor too…

image

I am HERE for the new upcoming collaboration with H&M (my fav mall store) & Balmain. There are so much detailing and textures through out the line. When I looked at one of the dresses, I immediately thought about how the material would make great toss pillows. You know us designers always find sources of inspiration for interiors. So here are mine. Above are some of the items in the home section of Target.

I always loved the teal and mustard color combo as seen here….

Tuesday’s Tips: updating a dated dining set

image

There are a few things you can do to spruce up a dated hand-me-down dining room set. Taking away chairs from one side, and adding a bench or taking away the head chairs to add two newer ones can add some extra oomph. You can also add new fabric to the seats in modern patterns or trendy colors to give new life in older pieces. Lastly, accessorize and create focal points that takes away from the furniture. Creating beautiful elaborate centerpieces and place settings with runners are ideal. Browse places like Zgallerie & Pier 1 for ideas. Mix candleholders and candlesticks and vases for an interesting look. Placing the set on a really pretty rug can help as well.
