Summer Weekend Recap No.5

image

I don’t have many images again so since I didn’t do an inspiration post yesterday, I will fill this one with quotes. Friday I went to the lake to see fireworks for Festa Italiana and watched all of the party boats and speed boats cruise back down the river. It was so warm that night. I live for nights in the 80s…

image

Saturday I got my hair done, bought gourmet popcorn from Goody Gourmets and an iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts before heading to meet my brother, niece and sister in law. From there we drove to Illinois to Gurnee Mills Outlet Mall. It stormed like crazy while there. We ate at the Rainforest cafe…

image

I bought these 2 weeks ago but just now posting pics of my little cacti. I hope I keep it alive. I bought it from Home Depot…

Hope your weekend was funfilled and you’re having a good start to the week. I know some of you may noticed sparse postings. I want to assure you I have no intention on dropping this blog. I just have to get back in a routine where the post I publish are earlier instead of noon and more frequent. I try to not post fillers for the sake of having something so I hope you all understand. Thanks for reading and for the continued support. Also, check out one of my real life friend’s blog She’s Out and About which details her adventures in New York.

Summer Weekend Recap No. 3 & 4

image

Happy Monday. I hope you all had a great weekend. I didn’t recap last week because I really didn’t have good pics of anything but if you follow me on instagram you may have saw the fireworks video I posted. Other than that July 4th weekend also consisted of grilling out, fireworks twice, going to the lake and an outlet mall. For this weekend, I simply chilled and had cocktails with my cousins on their porch Friday evening. Saturday after errands, I went with a friend to brunch back at Cafe Benelux. Man….my chicken and waffles with the carmelized apples was A plus. So delicious.
image

image

After that we went to this pizzeria spot on the river and sat on their deck and watched boats and had drinks. Nothing better than drinking on a hot Saturday afternoon.
image
I also helped my friend with opinions while shopping at some stores after this because he makes too much money to have an apartment styled like a college dorm…

image

image

Milwaukee finally has a West Elm. I need to hit them up soon…

image
Later that evening I took my little cousins to the lake to watch an outdoor movie. I admit, I people watched more than anything because there was a festival going on but it was fun for a while….
image

image

image
Sunday was a funday and I went with my cousin’s to Bastille Days, French and Parisian street festival that is free and has bands, performers, card readers, henna tattoo artists, food and accessory vendors. I go every year so that was fun. I had a tito’s strawberry lemonade while there. Afterward I went back to their house for more drinks and we all just talked for hours. I got home rather late and it was so warm out. The early wee hours had a ton of lightning and thunderstorms which made my day! I live for thunderstorms. Overall another good weekend. We almost knocked down one of my summer bucket list items to take a boat ride but maybe another time.

What fun things have you done so far this month?

Weekend Summer Recap No.2

image

I wasn’t able to post yesterday because I had a very eventful day and night. It all started with me taking my god-daughter and teenaged cousin to Milwaukee’s botanical gardens, the lake (Lake Michigan) & the riverwalk downtown to eat at Rock Botttom…

image

Here are some pics of the Riverwalk. I wish our river was more like Chicago’s and green. Hate this murky brown color..

image

While dining out on the patio, we watched the boats go by. It was hot outside…

image

There are some sculptures along the riverwalk too….

image

image

image

image

Later that night I had drinks with a friend at the The Iron Horse Hotel. I have to blog about this place’s interior and patio soon.

image

Since it was nice out, we even hit up another spot for rooftop drinks at Cafe Benelux. People rave about their brunches so that’s definitely on my to do list…

The domes are 3 egg shaped buildings filled with flowers…

This was my favorite picture…

My summer bucket list…

image

It’s summer and in order to live it up I created a bucket list. Not one solely of options I want but things I really think I can actually commit to doing. I would love to do something really fun each day but that may be a bit unrealistic. However here are my summer fun day lists that I want to accomplish. In no particular order.

image

-take the girls (niece/cousins) swimming at my condo’s community pool and have cute colorful floaties.

-chill at Bradford beach here in Milwaukee and order from beach bar

-get ice cream from Bradford beach

-walk several oak leaf trails

-go hiking once

-skydive

-go to Racine’s beachfront

-make pizzas from scratch with girls

-make rootbeer floats and burgers for dinner and play cards or board games…

image

-fly somewhere (usually I have trips booked by now)

-have a few lobster rolls from various restaurants

-get all of the small DIY projects I already have written down completed before the summer is out

-sooth my feet by getting a reflexology massage and professional pedicure at the same time

-power walk the entire lake drive early one morning (double wammy if I see the sunrise while walking the entire lake drive)

-take Mariah (god-daughter/cousin) to see a couple kids movies

image

-I can check this off but I want to see another sunset like this one I captured from the day before…

-I wrote down all of the parks that are having free outdoor movie nights so I can take my niece/little cousins and plan to do that at least 3 times this summer.

image

 -make homemade popsicles

-dine al fresco at least once every other week. That may not always work but even if it’s just an ice cream/burger joint, I want to really enjoy some meals outdoors…

-wine and paint (done this last year…so fun)

I know I will continue to add to this but these are some. What are some of yours?

Summer Weekend No.1

image

I hate when wordpress messes up and deletes my post when I’m uploading. That’s basically what happened. Anyway the summer is flying by and it just got started so I want to ensure I commit to a summer bucket list and enjoy the days. I’m not retyping everything from the original post but this weekend was a ball of fun and I plan to recap wknds or weeks until the end of summer.
image

Friday I went to the Lakefront festival of art with my cousin and had fun wine & vodka tasting.
image

Sunday I went with my brother, niece, sister-in-law & mom to Greek Fest. Milwaukee had great weather this weekend and the lake was poppin Sunday evening because it was in the 80s and sunny. Just swarms of people and barely any available parking spots.

Talked my sister into getting on this with me lol…

I also am near the end of the house project design I’ve worked on since January. Here are also some snippets of the spongebob/ nautical themed room I’m doing.

It’s going to be near 60 degrees today…

So you know what that means…almost time to start outdoor dining…

It’s also means it’s time to start airing out our homes and opening windows and doors…

And rocking trench and lightweight coats!

You can probably tell how excited I am. I am currently sitting in my car on lunch with the sunroof and windows open and a light jacket on. Spring is near!

Random DIY, Design & Christmas Takeaways

image

Have you all sent out your holiday cards? I haven’t but I will soon.

Useless knowledge: I have never had a gingerbread cookie in my life before, that I remember.

Do you put presents under the tree through out the month of December or wait until Christmas Eve?

I have a confession. I dislike real trees. I prefer artificial xmas trees anyday. It’s not the maintenance that’s an issue, I prefer the fullness of branches that artificial trees have. Which do you prefer?

image

When I see this bakers rack, it really makes me want to spray paint mine gold. I currently use mine as a “bar cart”. All of my wine glasses, wine bottle holder, alcohol and decanters are on it against a black wall. I think ifnit were gold, it would bring new life to it.

image
What a cool idea for those that have kids. It will look especially nice on black appliances.

And then we had December….

image

Happy Monday. Hope your weekend was funfilled. I had a good relaxing time with some fun thrown in. My aunt hosted a seafood gumbo showdown. I’m talking crab meat, crablegs, oysters, shrimp, sausage etc. It was so delish and fun to visit with family. I also went to a Bucks game the night that started my 5 day weekend and we won. I even made it to see The Lion King on Broadway. If you have kids or eant to enjoy a nice date night or girls night….go. It was so amazing. The last show is Dec 7th here in Milwaukee so get your tickets fast! December is the most wonderful time of the year and though I’m not 100% in the Christmas spirit this year, I am better than I was last year this time.

image

Last year it took me going to Manhattan New York a week before Christmas in order to get in the mood. Seeing all of the lights, the jolly people, the skating rings, (both at Bryant Park and the Rockerfeller Center), the holiday windows on 5th avenue, the toys at FAO Schwartz and the snowstorm that delayed our flight home made me in the spirit. This year I’m trying to not let it take that long to get in the mood. I’m exchanging gifts with a few friends which is helping get in the swing of things so I have more people to shop for. I started shopping on Saturday for gifts. I really wish to share but one of those friends follows me on social media so I can’t. Let’s just say I can’t wait to see what she says about the gift I got her and her husband.

image
Buying thoughtful gifts is second best to wrapping the gifts. I love wrapping gifts. People always say they know when Miya bought something because I like to use gift bags and go crazy with the tissue paper. This time I will wrap them up and use ornaments and ribbon instead of typical bows. Although I’m not putting up my Christmas tree this year, I did buy a wreath (something I never had) and flocked garland that will get adorned with ornaments and foliage tonight. It’s going to be super cold here in Milwaukee so I plan to stop to get me a salted caramel hot chocolate and go straight home and get busy decorating. I already decorated my home with table top décor (which I will blog about later) while watching the Macy’s parade (tradition).   I’m already finding myself humming Christmas tunes. So I guess I am in the spirit already.

image

Everything isn’t solely about Christmas though. For me, the month of December has some fun birthdays (niece and friend). December is a bit snowier so simply free fun things like snowball fights, building a snowman and taking my niece sledding will take place. I tried ice skating last winter and it wasn’t as fun as I remembered as a kid so I’ll leave that for yall.

image

image

The short daylight, cold nights makes it perfect to snuggle and watch endless movies. Something about this time of year allows for cozy house shoes, socks, & PJs at all times. It’s the time of year when you wake up, shower and put back on PJs because you know you’re not going anywhere.  Faux furs and candles lit makes December so relaxing. If you are blessed to have a lot of paid vacay time (I get five weeks a year), enjoy it. Make time for you and do something you love or been putting off. I’m always on the go so being able to relax a bit is ideal. Knowing my car is parked in underground parking makes relaxing even more indulgent because I know I don’t have to shovel my car out after being plowed in and dust off the snow when I DO leave.

image

December calls for a lot of get-to-gethers and parties, some of which you dress up for some of which you don’t but it’s great just knowing you will see your friends and family that much more. Be present in those moments. My friends and fam make fun of me cuz I always take pictures but it’s the same candid moments people love when they look back at them.

image

It’s the time of year when I stock up on marshmellows and hot chocolate and spend a little too much buying fun flavors from Gloria Jeans & Dunkin Donuts like the Smore’s kind.

image

December is also a time for reflection: what did you do or didn’t do throughout the year, what was a milestone or something that changed your life for the better, or what was something you can learn from that will help you in the future. It’s a time to set resolutions and goals for the upcoming year, though I’m a firm believer in not waiting as each day is a chance to start over. December can be an anxious month but it can also be filled with so much optimism. December is indeed the most wonderful time of the year.
