4 year blogversary….

image

I logged in wordpress and realized today marks year 4 that I’ve been blogging. I didn’t realize it but gosh time flies. I wanted to take a moment to give thanks to those who continue to read in this little corner of the web world, those who email and leave comments like my girl Style Fragment. I appreciate the pins and likes and all of the support. Thank you.

Sundays…..in November…

image

image

image

I can’t believe how fast the year is flying by. Already stores are airing holiday commercials and shoving Christmas down our throats. Can we please just gear up for Thanksgiving? It’s one of the best things about November. Actually, I can’t really make a list of other great things about this month because up here it gets so cold that the only thing I want to do is hibernate, read, watch nba and dvr’d shows and sleep.

image

I guess dressing in layers, cozy fireplaces, hot chocolate beverages and scents of cinnamon are good things about November…

image

And plaid. I need to buy some plaid. ..

image

I also like harvest decor. It’s rustic and festive. Stuff like burlap, branches,  pumpkins and candles make all the difference in a tablescape….

image

Entertaining family and friends and  reflecting on your blessings and being present in the moment are other good things about November. You can’t help but think of all the good food, eating and baking you will do. I am a great cook but I don’t bake. However I’ve been itching to do more baking this fall. I witnessed how easy it is to make an apple pie and want to try my version of it. I already made an apple crisp which was delicious under a scoop of ice cream. I also want to make a peach cobbler as I haven’t made one in years. Baking and cooking allows you to share meals made with love with people who appreciate it. That’s a good thing to look forward to this month.

image

I guess there are great things about November. Hopefully this month is better than last which had quite a bit of negatives including an uncle and great aunt passing within two weeks of each other. After the funeral this week, I hope more joys and highs are in store this month for me and my family. For now, it’s Sunday….indulge in what makes your happy. I know I will. :-)

Tuesday’s Tips: Buy the best that you can afford

image

Whether you’re buying materials or furniture, sometimes buying the cheapest will cost you more in the long run if you need to replace it. I am frugal but sometimes you get what you pay for and you need to make wise choices on what you spend on investments and things that need to withstand years. So buy quality mattresses, sofas, and save on decor and little things. By no means am I suggesting live beyond your means but know that cheaper quality furniture may not last in the long run.

image

image

Sorry for the week long absense. My uncle, who was my second client allowing me to decorate his entire condo, passed away. Between the funeral preperarions, pricing everything for an estate sale and spending time with family I haven’t seen in years, I’ve had no time to do much anything let alone blog or check emails. I ask that if you send an email, don’t send a follow up. It will just take me longer to reply. Please be patient as I get back in the swing of things…

Monday Inspiration 7.7.14

image

image

I like this picture for this quote because every sunset means there’s a new beginning and a new day that follows where we can try all over again.  I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and holiday. Mine was ok but I’ve been battling some sort of stomach virus or food poisoning since July 4th off and on. I even had to call out work today and I rarely ever do that. Nothing worse than spending a 85 degree day cooped up in the house sick. My meds are slowly working so hopefully I’ll be able to resume blogging soon.

Happy Official Summer Kick Off Day!

image

Time to crank up the outdoor parties and get-to-gethers and enjoy the season. Our Spring came late but we’ve had some hot and humid days already so surprised that the first weekend of summer is blah. It’s gloomy, currently 60 and just not a warm welcome. Though it is suppose to warm up to the low 70’s today, yesterday was near 80 then dropped to 59 degrees around 6pm. So if you’re lucky to have a city with some consistant warmth/hot/sun, please enjoy it for me.

image

Time to smell the roses. A lot of flowers are bloomed. I was able to get to the botanical garden this year before peony season ended. Below are my captures of my favorite flower…

image

I even put a video on instagram. It’s funny because the same day someone on the east coast showed a dead peony garden…

image

Time to really let the fresh air in. This little set up of cocktails is so inviting after a long day. Check out my bar tray post for inspiration on similar set ups..

image

Time to really fire up grills and try seasonal recipes. I love to eat fish but sometimes want to spice it up a notch and these tilapia burgers are on the list to try…

image

Time for watermelon and fruit salsas. These tequila soaked watermelon tacos area great way to jazz up taco night…

image

Time for floppy hats. I am on the hunt for one to go with my swimsuit ensemble for my Arizona trip. But I don’t want to pay a lot since I’m not really going to wear it again. I feel these hats look best on women with longer necks. Maybe I’m just weird lol…

image

Time to just lounge around and be present. Whether you lounge watching kids play or lounge reading a magazine just make the time to relax a bit more. We’re all busy but we need time for ourselves and to recharge and not feel guilty about it…

image

Time for the beach! This was my toes in the sand last week after getting my hair done. It was in the morning before the beach swarmed with people. It was super windy and it loosened my curls the way I wanted…

image

Time for fishing! I never gone before and want to go at least once this year…

image

What are you looking forward to this summer?

Monday Wants…

image

Life lately hasn’t been on my side. Ever since Thursday things have messed with my productivity and spirit. So instead of my usual Monday inspirational post about appreciating what I have, I want to share what I want. Yep, I would be a happy camper if…

image

If it rained WHILE thundering. I love thunderstorms and I know April brings May flowers but maaan this rainy gloomy forecast is for the birds. Not to mention it prevents you from getting your car washed. Sick of riding dirty…

image

If I had flowers to brighten my day or home. Note to self: stop at Trader Joes. Speaking of flowers, I tweeted that
Target should have a small floral mart in their grocer section. I can see it now…strolling through all aisles, tossing a bunch of stuff I don’t need in the cart, then finishing with flowers. Can’t you envision that? (Flowers and a happy hour bar will set them off! Imagine getting a cocktail before you shop after work). Target even replied to my tweet saying they will consider the idea. I should get free flowers for a year if they do…

image

If the trees bloom already. I haven’t seen any tree buds and it still looks like winter. This is abnormal…

image

If a roundtrip ticket magically appeared in my hands. I am just ready for a change of scenery and sometimes driving isn’t enough. I had fun getting away in December to Manhattan, New York so I’m on the lookout for another cool weekend getaway…

image

If I could get lost in an unknown city or area. I even want to take time and stroll places I drive by all the time. You miss out on a lot while driving…

image

If my hair will act right. I’ve had more bad hair days lately than normal and it’s driving me crazy. I want mine laid like hers above. I started watching youtube clips and tried recreating some things. Most have been fails….

image

If I had herringbone wood floors. I am not at liberty to do so though due to my leasing agreement but I can’t wait for the day when I no longer have carpet…

image

If I could get my to-do list together. I don’t remember the last time I was able to scratch every task off and it’s disappointing…

image

If I could get some leafy plants in my place. I have a cat and she insists on chewing on faux leaves so I know I can’t have real ones but I would like to. There are more things I want but I will stop for now. What would you currently like that could boost your mood?

Monday Morning Inspiration 1.27.14

image

image

image

One small thing I look forward to is making hot chocolate at work. It’s something I do during cold seasons and a small thing that makes me happy. I limit myself to one cup so I really savor every sip. I gueas the same can be said for life in general. We are all busy…we’re grown but often life flies by too fast the older you get. So I am trying to be present in the moment a bit more. We can be focused and driven while making sure we secure our futures but try to be in the moment sometimes and take life in…

Monday Inspiration 12.30.13 coffee and dessert

image

When you have this mentality, Mondays….and everyday will be that much easier to look forward to…
image

Sweet treats like the image I took above is what I looked forward to. Shortly after arriving to work a coworker shared these treats. The chocolate covered cookie dough balls were the best!

Monday morning cookies and dessert with coffee and hot chocolate sounds like a plan to me. Maybe I should do this every Monday….tradition for the new year.
