Design Takeaways: Go Bold or Go Home…

image

I admire designers who can convince a homeowner to go bold with walls and ceilings. A lot of people shy away from it because of the labor and time it takes to change it all back if the look isn’t what they wanted. I understand that but wow…what a statement if you take the risk.

image

Going bold can also hide imperfections and take the focus away from eyesores. I think any major boldness I would do would be limited to small scales like a closet. What about you?

Bold bathroom tile & wallpaper designs…

image

Soon I’ll be moving to my condo I’m buying and though it is move in ready, I can’t wait to be able to give my personal touch to things. One way you can do that is the bathroom. There isn’t a lot of wall or floor space usually so wallpapering a powder room or laying higher end flooring shouldn’t be too costly because you have a small area to work with.

image

It also may fit your budget if you splurge on marble for the bathroom sink vanity versus in a kitchen for countertops. You can sometimes find affordable slabs of stone that can get cut and sized to fit your needs in hardware stores or tile shops. A lot going on with patterns in the above bathrooms but it all works because it’s in the same color scheme…

I love how this bathroom has two mirrors on opposite ends giving it the illusion of a larger area….

Vertical stripes will make the ceiling of a bathroom feel higher…

The dentil molding in this bathroom is everything! I plan to add some sparkle to my walls and ceiling with chandeliers. Even a flush mount fixture will be enough to add some ambience to a bathroom or hall…

Changing hardware, lighting and decorative mirrors can add the oomph you need to tranform a bathroom into a fabulous space…

Shopping with PinkLion for the holidays…

image

A while back I was introduced to PinkLion which is a company that curates products from  independent brands to bring you a seletion of modern, crafty essentials. I was gifted a print by Latte Design in my favorite theme: coffee. Anyone who knows me knows I live for my Dunkin Donuts and McCafe coffee beverages.

image

At first I thought I would style it in the kitchen and create a small coffee station similar to these but all of my art in my office/den is black and white so I figured I would place it there.

Excuse the quality of pictures. I took them with my Galaxy S5 but the outdoor lighting sucked that day. It was gloomy, either snowy or rainy, for days.

Remember when I blogged about putting chairs in odd corners?

image

I intially blogged about ways to make use of odd corners and featured the pic below. You can see that post here. Then I came across Coco & Kelley’s post showcasing the entire home. It’s dark and moody and the palette consists of just gray, white and black. The textures and layering allows the space to feel cozy and not become boring. It’s very masculine but fine for a woman too.

image

Then I saw the kitchen and realized I also blogged about that on my decorating with cutting boards post.

I love coming across home tours of rooms I’ve blogged about before. You can see all of the times it has happened in my Remember When archives.

image

I love this sitting area especially the lacquered octagon table. The creamy tone is more of a softened spin on black and white but still classic…

Such a pretty light chandelier from Restoration Hardware. Speaking of….I found out they closed down the only Milwaukee location. Shameful. You can see more of the home’s beauty over on Atlanta Homes.
