The key thing is to get out the habit of pushing furniture against the wall. This is especially true for attics as some of the wall space is very short. Most furniture is too tall so this is where scale comes in. Make sure you select pieces that is to scale for the room. The only way any furniture can work in an attic is if it’s smaller and lower. Not paul bunyon sized beds with canopies and bedpost. Not usually at least. Try a platform bed that sits very low to the ground. Or even an air mattress. For this living space above, the sofas are in the middle of the room where there is more head space. Put a console table behind them to take up some of the dead space…
If you can’t spare a bedroom to convert into an actual office, use the attic. Just make sure to have adequate lighting…
