If I could change 1 thing about this living room with lovely charm…

image

{Interior Design by Ken Fulk via Domaine Home}

I like this room. I like the warm ivory tones and aqua’s and the pink pillows. I like the windows or doors (can’t tell) on opposite sides of the space that probably has some amazing cross breezes when opened. I love that the fireplace is the focal point and not obstructed with anything. The wingback chairs are great for sitting prim and proper but those deep sofas look so comfortable to lounge on with a stack of magazines. The bones of the room, the fireplace, the arches, and the beams are wonderful but if I could change one thing……..it would be the canary yellow ceiling. I’m not a huge huge fan of yellow and I prefer a more mustard hue if I had to pick. But the yellow just irks me. I’d rather a pale pink or something but that. What would you change or is it perfect as is?

Miami home tour with a modern sky blue twist

This is pretty much what I think of when I think of Miami penthouses in the sky. The monochromatic color of water with lacquered furnishings and modern lines is quite beautiful.

This is what I thought all furniture would look like after year 2000. Growing up, I thought by now we’d all dress futuristic in silver like TLC, have cars that fly and just very curvy and odd shaped furniture. Don’t judge me. But this would have fit my vision. I like the metallic wallpaper throughout and what was done with the column as well.

Color Schemes Xmas Edition: Aqua and Silver Winter Wonderland

I recently  had a conversation with a friend who is having a debate with her husband about holiday color schemes. He wants blue and green but it reminds her of her school colors. She also feels it’s not Christmas-see enough if she doesn’t have red. So I started thinking of beautiful holiday schemes that aren’t traditional. The Winter Wonderland is exactly the kind of scheme that makes me feel totally in the mood. You can even add hot pink or fire engine red to the turquoise hues for a pop of color. Love the ribbon and disco balls and ornaments in urns looks…

A lot of the decor can be done on a budget. Branches from the yard spray painted can create a nice tablescape, ribbon by the roll can be purchased from Michael’s or Jo-Ann Fabric and you can use their weekly 40% off coupons in the paper. You can also get random mirrors from thrift stores of the Goodwill and spray paint the frames for mantle decorating. Dollar stores usually carry cone-shaped styrofoam that you can cover in glitter…

Color Schemes: Aqua, Mustard & Mocha Hues…

{via French Elle}

When I came across this picture I knew I needed to find interiors with this color scheme. The mustard and mocha hues reminds me of Autumn but the added aquamarine makes me think of calm ocean waters….

This color scheme is a different take for a kids space. It’s colorful but gender friendly…

Color Schemes: Mint & White…

I’ve mentioned before how TURQUIOSE hues are my favorite summer colors and I’ve been seeing a ton of minty inspirations. How about a color scheme of mint & white? Totally fresh & airy. Tufted ottomans like the one above are good for additional seating but when TRAYS are placed on top, they double as tables. The chevron print rug & pillows are the perfect contrast. You don’t have to use pink or red when decorating with black and white…

{House of Turquoise}

This seems like a cozy retreat on a lazy bum Sunday. The wall paint gives the room color without being overbearing…

Symmetry in Design…

 I always like a little symmetry in a room. Yeah, sometimes it can be a bit stale but there’s something so neat about a room or area of a space that’s perfectly symmetrical. It creates visual balance. I really like to see symmetry on console table areas in an entry or mantel. What are your thoughts?

If this blacked out office isn’t gorgeous, I don’t know what is. It’s so masculine yet stylish. I love the grommet details on the chairs as well as the gold accents throughout. Need help with designing male friendly spaces? Click HERE.

I love when scarves and throws are used under pillows like this. I might have to try this look but my cat may play with the fringe :-(

Life’s a Beach: Coral, Starfish, Shells Decor…

There’s something so natural, beautiful and calming about beachy decor. This post will show you ways to take elements from the ocean and incorporate it into your home without taking the theme too literal. I especially like it because it’s part of how I decorated my bathroom. The neutral pic above is so calming to me. Certain elements like the circular shapes are repeated throughout the space from the chairs, to the mirror to the vases. Doing that in any space makes everything cohesive…

{Elle Decor}

Bookshelves are not solely for books. As I’ve blogged about HERE, you can accessorize shelving with artifacts or random collections, in this case shells, starfish and coral. With the backs of the shelves painted teal, it allows the sea life finds to pop and not get swallowed up in a white-painted unit. I also love the Moroccan Pouffe ottoman. I need one of those in my life…

{Wedding Bee}

This is such a beautiful dinner party setting. Anytime you lay pillows down to sit on, you already know it’s a relaxed atmosphere. Hanging a curtain full of capiz shells (something that be found at World Market) & using sheer fabric hung from a canopy made of sticks has such a romantic feel…

{Kelly Interior Design}

Okay, yeah the pillows are pretty literal but how cool is it on these white chairs? I love the black piping on them and the Black Walls. Yall know I will forever be biased with black walls considering my post about the OBSESSION with the color. I think with the creamy doors and mantle in conjunction with the ivory carpeting, it prevents the room from appearing too dark and drag. Continue reading for tons more…

Color Connection: Tropical Ocean Water Hues…

My first design----college apartment bedroom contemporary bedroom
Aqua/Turquoise has been one of my favorite colors for summer ever since I 19. It was never my favorite color but it came at a close 3rd behind black & purple. I found the above pic over on houzz.com from user SugarDesign. This was her first project and I think she did a fabulous job. One way to add color to apartment walls when you’re not allowed to paint is hanging window treatments from a rod, even when there isn’t a window. Here, she did just that & went a step further by hanging mirrors over it. Toss pillows are a cheap and effective way to add spark to a space & the fabric choices and embellishments really add glam. The color combo of aqua w/chocolate is all the rage right now so it shouldn’t be difficult to accessorize a space like this.

I love love love sticks in vases. You hear me? LOVE. So dramatic & simple and anyone can do it. Also if you’ve been following me since the start of this blog you will see another trend that I adore. ZEBRA!!!!!!! *swoon* I swear to you I really don’t try to find zebra, I just stumble across it. I’m sure the other zebra patterned lovers don’t mind ;-) & I’ll continue to hold you all down, lol. Looking at that pic makes me miss the chocolate wall I had in my previous apartment.
Whittier Drive modern bedroom
I need this rug in my life. It’s just calling me to throw some pillows down with a bunch of fashion magazines & indulge. I especially love what they did with the ceiling and wall treatment. It’s like a continuous headboard as seen before in this post. While I’m needing things….let me put dibs on this über fabulous tufted chaise lounge.

*fist pump* First black is my favorite color & this here, is giving me everything. How unique is this honeycomb floor pattern? If that isn’t bold enough, check out the black ceilings!! Too fabulous. You ever go in shopping stores in the mall or even some restaurants where the ceiling and all its beams, pipes and ugliness is exposed? Well when it’s painted black it goes unnoticed.
