I am really digging the idea of displaying book covers. I also love color coordinating book spines but showcasing pretty covers isn’t a bad choice. Which would you do if you had to pick?

So we all know subway tile is classic. It will never go out of style and looks well both in kitchen and bath settings. With that said, which do you prefer? Black tile or white?

You know I love my bookshelves and I tend to gravitate more toward books grouped with like hues. What do you prefer? Does it make a difference or are you concerned more with how the shelves are styled & if it’s a combination of vertically & horizontally placed books?

Arranged around an inner courtyard one open living area with a view is where Jonathan Adler lives. He has an indoor fire pit, skylights, and a groovy Palm Springs–style pool pavilion. Lisa Gray and Alan Organschi of the Connecticut firm Gray Organschi Architecture were hired, in addition to Hamptons builder Carlos Routh. The landscape was done by Vickie Cardaro of Buttercup Design Group…

Love the wall detail and pops of color true to Jonathan’s aesthetic…

Now Adam Levine too has a fabulous view in the Hollywood Hills.

Classic photo of Dr. Dre framed. Love the velvet tufted sofa…

Benjamin Moore’s Black painted walls creates a moody space with Merlot hued accents …

That gun lamp is awfully popular and ironically sits under a framed photo of Tupac…

His celebrity iconic images doesn’t stop. A gallery wall of photographs featuring portraits of Kurt Cobain, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Wonder with Bob Marley…

So if you had to pick, which star’s home would you live in? For me, I’d pick Adam’s…

I wasn’t on board at first with the trend…but I know I like them most when paired or quadrupled. So it got me wondering, do you prefer one starburst mirror or a wall filled?

In the past I’ve said I could never have open shelving in the kitchen. Although my cabinets are neat, I never want to feel obligated to have everything picture perfect should I be in a rush one day putting dishes away. But the more and more I see them, I really like the look. It gives off a diner feel. It’s a great way to open a space and prevent a galley kitchen from feeling closed in. The floating shelves gives an airy element to a room and if you have beautiful dishes, why not show them off? Colorful bowls can serve as function and decor by infusing color into the space. So what do you think. Open shelves vs regular cabinets???

Some people think symmetry in design is boring and too safe. I personally love it but if something isn’t symmetrical, I prefer that it’s at least balanced. By that I mean, if there is a console table with a lamp on one side and a plant on the other, I would want them the same height. If a mirror and a pic is hung over nightstands, I’ll need them to be hung at the same height. So what are your thoughts? First what do you think of this fabulous mirrored greek key console table? Such a statement piece…

I’ve blogged many times about modern ways to display family portraits and create gallery walls. But what is your preferred way to display art? Hanging or leaning the photos. I personally LOVE the idea of leaning pictures for one, it’s not as permanent as hanging art. I know it’s nothing to fill holes left from nails but it’s an extra step one must take, especially renters when vacating property (after all, you want to get your security deposit back, just being real…) but it also is way faster. You don’t have to use rulers and levelers or go through THIS process of arranging a gallery wall or THIS technique when hanging photos. You can simply lean them from the floor, lean them from shelves, lean them from desks. Even if you have the same sized photos, all you have to do is get various sized frames and mats for those frames and then the photos will be viewed at different heights.

New series where I’m having two similar things in design compete. For this one I wanted to start off with one of my favorite design obsessions: decorating with books on shelves. I like floating shelves but I also like when they’re enclosed in a case. But lately there has been some really slick built-in designs. So which do you prefer…built-ins or bookcases?

Love this look, so sleek and clean. I also like the way the built ins act as a headboard…

This high gloss color is everything to me. Whether it’s blue or colbalt, blue lacquered paint is gorgeous…
