Guest Blogger: Jessica from Arcadian Lighting giving us Chic Tropical Indulgences…

Today I have a treat for you. Even though this week was rather cold, as it should be, we’ve been having a very mild winter here in Milwaukee. Temperatures upwards of 55 in January. So needless to say, I’ve been craving spring hues and bright colors and what better way than to get in the mood than with tropical inspired interiors. That’s where this guest post comes in. Read below and indulge…

Hi everyone! I’m Jessica, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, a wonderful source for affordable light fixtures and design inspirations. I’m delighted to be guest posting for Miya today as I have a collection of beautifully chic tropical interiors. A warm, tropical inspired room is a great space to come home to, especially during the cold month of February. I hope you enjoy these designs as much as I do!

Tropical Chic

Cream colored furnishings are always very chic, and when paired with fresh leafy greenery and a dynamic patterned rug, the room becomes truly stunning. I love the animal prints on the wall.

Tuesday’s Tips: Put casters on anything to create mobile storage…

image

So I was watching Racheal Ray on dvr and DIY pro Carter Oosterhouse was showing how to create extra storage for a couple who lived in a tiny NY apt. He basically put casters on a regular bookshelf and squeezed it in the space between the wall and fridge. See the segment HERE. Brilliant. So it got me thinking…there’s spaces like that in most areas. Laundry areas especially. I have a stackable in my apt and although I don’t need additional storage, I could easily fit something on the side. Casters help impact height and give mobility to other furniture pieces as well. Put them on a table to create a center island for a kitchen or a rolling bar cart if you repurpose a changing table. Put them on another shelving unit, you can create division in an open floor plan.

Tuesday’s Tips: Apothecary Jars as Chic Storage 4 Kitch, Bath & Laundry Rooms…

{In Honor of Design}

I know I know *dodges bullets* this post should have gone up first thing this morning. As a matter of fact I usually schedule post for 1 am. :-( I’ve been slipping but I promise it’s only for the week. Anyhoo, I absolutely love apothecary jars. They are so functional and fly at the same time. There is no better way to create a chic storage option for bite size little things that you need within arms reach. Here are many examples of what you can put in them and the rooms for it…

  • Qtips
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Decorative Soaps
  • Bath Salts
  • Sponges & Scrubbers

Sunday Rituals…

{My Home Ideas}

Ahhh the joys of Sunday. Not only a time for relaxation but a time for chores. I had a very busy day yesterday so I plan to do a bunch of nothing around my apt and then some cleaning & laundry. I will watch Basketball Wives reunion, Celeb Apprentice, an NBA game or two, Kim & Kourt Take New York, everything I dvr’d on HGTV yesterday & read lots of magazines. That is after all…cleaning. I’m cleaning my dvr percentage & my magazine basket. Yep, I’ve already convinced myself my agenda is very much a productive one. :-) I do plan to get some other real important things done on the computer as well as tackle a few floor plan options for the reception I’m planning. But what are some of your Sunday rituals? Is this time to unwind from a long week or is this the start of yours?

 Isn’t the above pic cutely organized? A canister for lightbulbs? Too clever. I don’t know about you but for me, laundry would be that much more fun if done in one of these rooms…

Love the usage of apothecary jars to house detergent and clothes pins. Continue reading to indulge in more laundry rooms…
