Have a Spooktacular Halloween…

image

Have any plans for tonight? It’s cold and super windy here and the leaves are high in the sky like tornado debri. It really is a perfect setting for Halloween. I will be someplace warm and engulfed in the first home game of the season for the Bucks. I love nba season and it’s one of the few things I look forward to when the seasons change…

I just love these edgy and glam pumpkins via the Life Styled Blog. They are good enough for Halloween but even better for Turkey day. Just use carvable faux pumpkins from Michael’s

Glitter and feathers and printed napkins? Sounds like a pretty festive affair for a masquerade dinner party. See the rest on Formal Fringe. Whatever you do, be safe and have fun. You might as well indulge in all the goodies because the rest of the year is pretty much downhill from here, sweets wise…

Quick NYE decor ideas with these essentials

image

It’s almost that time. If you are a last minute decorator, head to your nearest dollar store now. With tissue paper, carboard, metallic sharpies, craft paper, scissors and glue, you can jazz up for a party relatively quickly. For starters, you get some washi tape and tape them around basic glasses. If you need more stemware, seriously….a dollar store will come in handy. Sharpies are great for writing your own slogans on black balloons. Pipe cleaners are excellent to bend and make crowns or jazz up drink stirrers. Cut tissue paper in fringe style for backdrops or DIY tassled banners. Tissue paper can also be used to make confetti.

image

You know those faux silver plated dollar store platters? Buy some. Nobody cares if it’s not real silver. People are too busy trying to get tipsy. They are disposable so you don’t have to worry about cleaning them up. They even have faux disposable china and utensils that elevates the look versus your typical paper products.  Even if you mix and mingle with white serving platters, it will still flow. Notice how they used the square Dollar Tree candle holders to give that platter some height? Buy some of those. If you entertain even a little bit, those square candle holders come in handy for so many things without breaking the bank. Get some. Dollar Tree also has their Christmas stuff 50% off. (yeah I know, I didn’t realize they had sales). Get some of the gold and silver oranments and stars to float and scatter around. They are cheap so if they break, who cares! I love this backdrop. You van easily hang black foam core boards or craft paper behind a table. Use the sharpies to freehand different fonts…

Easy Thanksgiving Table Decor and traditions..

image

You’re going to have food on the table or desserts so you don’t want a centerpiece that will take up too much room. Use small gourds and pumpkins that you spraypainted and intermingle with vegetables and moss for a natural display. Contain everything in a shoebox lid.
image
I love the idea of decorating with veggies as seen here in a post filled with edible arrangements . It’s so organic and can be used to cook with later. It’s no different than having veggies out at a grocery store.

image

image
Push together storage bins and top with a tablecloth or thin blanket for a kid’s thanksgiving table. Hot glue leaves drawn and cut from craft paper for the centerpiece…
image
Snatching branches from the ground and sticking them in empty paint cans or mason jars filled with shredded paper can create a nice woodland themed display. Use acorns, tree stumps and squirrel and fox decor…

image

Spray paint acorns and stick sparkly letters cut from craft paper to spell out whatever you wish. BE THANKFUL, GIVE THANKS, & HAPPY TURKEY DAY are some ideas…

image

image
Spray paint branches and dip feathers in gold. The kids would love to help out with making glittered feathers.

What traditions does your family do? I have been watching the Macy’s parade and putting up the Christmas tree during it since I was a kid. Another thing I would do is watch Beyonce concert specials on tv. That’s basically it. I found a few other nice traditions we can try like writing letters of thanks to everyone who did something nice for you this year and send them off. I also like the idea of hosting a “Friendsgiving” which is a separate dinner for friends over the Thanksgiving weekend. It could also be a big pot luck or a dessert party, where you feast on bunch of different sweets. Yeah, you may just want to resume those diets after Turkey Day.

My DIY semi success semi fail with a tassled geronimo balloon attempt

image
So I am obsessed with these ginormous geronimo balloons and the tassles. They are so incredibly fun and festive and so expensive. So I browsed many sites and kind of created my own tassles. See below.

Had a date night in Friday with a Chocolate fountain…

image

So I have been craving fondue eating for a while now. Here in Milwaukee we have a restaurant called The Melting Pot that seems like a ball of fun. With a little patience you can have the same experience at home. For a date night in, I used frozen bananas, strawberries, pineapples, ice cream flavored mushrooms, Special K Pastry Crisps in cookies n cream & Ritz crackers with peanut butter filling….

image

image

I like chocolate fountains because it makes people get up from their seats at a party and mingle. It’s a fun idea for any dinner or birthday party for kids and adults and great as a treat during wedding receptions…

image

I used YescomUSA‘s chocolate fountain. I hear some come with up to four parts. I like that this one only came into two parts which made for an easy installation. I used gheridelli chocolate which I first melted over the stove top. Once melted I spooned it into the base and heated the chocolate for a couple minutes before turning on the fountain.

Tuesday’s Tips: No Sew DIY Cloth Napkins from old shirts

image

I was watching Rachel Ray and she had someone on her show repurposing old shirts and turning them into cute square cloth napkins. This could be a quick fun way to use fabric from an old or thrifted shirt that may not fit anymore. Sometimes it’s the textile that you can’t part with, so you end up keeping it. Making cloth napkins can jazz up the dinner party table and make use of something that was going to sit idle in the closet. All you need is a little patience, scissors and steam a seam tape. It’s similar to hem tape one can use on pants. See a tutorial here.

image

Let’s say you have a dinner party or small wedding to plan. Adding cloth napkins completes the table setting. Linen rental companies can be very pricey so it may be easier to buy a few yards of fabric at the local fabric store and get to cutting and ironing! Make some place mats while you’re at for additional savings.
