I love this gallery display of art. Makes great use of what some would leave as dead space because of the height…

These doors & the sheen is simply glamorous…

What do you think? She has a very bold aesthetic and a lot of her pieces are very unique and ….interesting. You are flooded with a colorful atmosphere, unfamiliar lines in the furniture & an abundance of sculptures & art elements. It’s not for everyone but definitely unique to her which is what design is all about.

Design Tip: Keep pets out the kitchen with this trick…

image

I am a cat owner and though she has free reign to go almost anywhere, one place I want to limit is her kitchen presence. For the most part, I’ve trained her to stay at the edge but to keep her out, I think using a nice fun patterned fabric as a curtain can do the trick. Use a tension rod and either attach velcro to the bottom and the wall or some a magnetic strip. I think sticking velcro would be better for me. Yes I know the above appears to show a curtain closing off an unsightly pantry but you can do the same for the entry ..

Reminds me of the hotel I stayed in while in Atlanta last week. They closed off the closet with a curtain. It’s softer and a bit more personalized than having a door. How do you keep pets from wandering in certain forbidden places?

Baubles & Shoes…

image

Looking thru celeb & media people’s accessories, shoes, purses & jewelry collections on The Coveteur has me wondering. If I were to display me fav pieces, where in my apt would I want them shown? I especially love the how Nicky Hilton’s studs were placed into tufted upholstery & Khloe Kardashian’s shoes in her fireplace. And check out that black tile! Lovely.

Tuesday’s Tips: get extra square footage by putting dressers in closets…

image

This isn’t for everyone but if you crave the idea of having a reading area or a desk or other sitting furniture, you first need to make room for it. Small rooms with too much furniture feels cramped & smaller than what the room actually is. Make some extra space by storing a dresser or armoire in the closet. It’s like having your own customized closet considering most of those installations has some sort of vertical drawer unit. So you’ll still be maximizing the space

image

If you’re lucky enough to have a large walk in closet, place the dresser in the center. Put chairs or a nice chaise lounge against the back of it for seating…

I hate plates on the wall but other than that, cute room! Love the softening feel by using drapery instead of closet doors…

Lovely girlie images from the home of Alexandra of HRH Collection

wpid-z.jpg

I love Alexandra‘s home. Ever since I came across her blog, it was the snapshots of her place that caught my eye. Light and airy, feminine & girlie, open wardrobes, dressing room, leaned mirrors, and plenty of floral indulgences. She … Continue reading

Save those shoe boxes & here’s why it benefits closet design…

image

You’re browsing the shoe store. You spot some 4″ stilettos you gotta have. You spot the perfect wedge platforms you can rock with that new maxi dress. Then slowly your eyes covers several other pairs your pockets will afford you. Then at the register you politely tell the cashier “you can keep the boxes”. Sound familiar? Well maybe you should. One thing that kind of irks me is when one doesn’t have a custom closet & shoes lined up in one sad continuous row. Having a box…or two in the mix elevates shoes & just looks better visually. In my opinion….

image

But I never thought about shoe boxes storing anything other than cash (not I…but I’ve seen it before). Here’s an idea. Line the bottoms with satin or velvet fabric. Roll your belts and fit them in alongside each other honeycomb style. Or lay your necklaces and jewelry in each and use like their jewelry box drawers. Store watches, broaches or anything smaller or flatter on shoe box lids for easier visibility. Basically the lids can act as trays to organize sunglasses etc. And the best part…they’re free. Except for….the price of the shoes.
