Tuesday’s Tips: Buy the best that you can afford

image

Whether you’re buying materials or furniture, sometimes buying the cheapest will cost you more in the long run if you need to replace it. I am frugal but sometimes you get what you pay for and you need to make wise choices on what you spend on investments and things that need to withstand years. So buy quality mattresses, sofas, and save on decor and little things. By no means am I suggesting live beyond your means but know that cheaper quality furniture may not last in the long run.

Sorry for the week long absense. My uncle, who was my second client allowing me to decorate his entire condo, passed away. Between the funeral preperarions, pricing everything for an estate sale and spending time with family I haven’t seen in years, I’ve had no time to do much anything let alone blog or check emails. I ask that if you send an email, don’t send a follow up. It will just take me longer to reply. Please be patient as I get back in the swing of things…

My DIY art idea using a pillowcase

image
.
Over the weekend I finally decided to put to use some picture frames I bought at JoAnn Fabric. I knew I wanted to take up some wall space in my bedroom and since it has a slight Moroccan influence, I figured I could use a beaded pillowcase I bought from Summerfest as art. Below is the simple tutorial…

First I cut the fabric slightly larger than needed so that I could tape the excess on the back of the mat….

I like this picture for this quote because every sunset means there’s a new beginning and a new day that follows where we can try all over again.  I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and holiday. Mine was ok but I’ve been battling some sort of stomach virus or food poisoning since July 4th off and on. I even had to call out work today and I rarely ever do that. Nothing worse than spending a 85 degree day cooped up in the house sick. My meds are slowly working so hopefully I’ll be able to resume blogging soon.

Happy Official Summer Kick Off Day!

image

Time to crank up the outdoor parties and get-to-gethers and enjoy the season. Our Spring came late but we’ve had some hot and humid days already so surprised that the first weekend of summer is blah. It’s gloomy, currently 60 and just not a warm welcome. Though it is suppose to warm up to the low 70’s today, yesterday was near 80 then dropped to 59 degrees around 6pm. So if you’re lucky to have a city with some consistant warmth/hot/sun, please enjoy it for me.

Time to smell the roses. A lot of flowers are bloomed. I was able to get to the botanical garden this year before peony season ended. Below are my captures of my favorite flower…

image

I even put a video on instagram. It’s funny because the same day someone on the east coast showed a dead peony garden…

Time to really let the fresh air in. This little set up of cocktails is so inviting after a long day. Check out my bar tray post for inspiration on similar set ups..

image

Time to really fire up grills and try seasonal recipes. I love to eat fish but sometimes want to spice it up a notch and these tilapia burgers are on the list to try…

image

Time for watermelon and fruit salsas. These tequila soaked watermelon tacos area great way to jazz up taco night…

image

Time for floppy hats. I am on the hunt for one to go with my swimsuit ensemble for my Arizona trip. But I don’t want to pay a lot since I’m not really going to wear it again. I feel these hats look best on women with longer necks. Maybe I’m just weird lol…

image

Time to just lounge around and be present. Whether you lounge watching kids play or lounge reading a magazine just make the time to relax a bit more. We’re all busy but we need time for ourselves and to recharge and not feel guilty about it…

image

Time for the beach! This was my toes in the sand last week after getting my hair done. It was in the morning before the beach swarmed with people. It was super windy and it loosened my curls the way I wanted…

image

Time for fishing! I never gone before and want to go at least once this year…

What are you looking forward to this summer?

It’s June!

I am so excited for the summer months and any sort of travel I do. At the end of the summer I’m going to Arizona and cannot wait…

June is definitely the kick off for a lot of things like ice cream sundaes…

Dining outdoors…

Outdoor weddings and showers…

Hanging out on someone’s patio…

Cooling off at the pool…

Make time for yourself…

Yesterday I took off work. I decided on Monday I needed pto because the forecast called for the first 80 degree day of the year. After our winter, I was extremely geeked excited to feel warm air. I couldn’t possibly be cooped up in an office on a day like that. So I took off. I also done nothing. Nothing planned. Everything I wanted to do, in order to be a tadbit productive, went out the window. Guess what….it felt GREAT.

First the air was tropical here in Milwaukee. The breeze was wonderful and the temperature climbed continuously into the night. It was 83 degrees by 11pm when I got home. I live for hot nights. Though it’s Spring, I had a taste of summer…
