I’m inspired by bright lacquered animal statues and figurines…

Designer Miguel Palacio has something in common with me. We both have animal statues. Mine are a panther and elephant. In giving my old decor new life, I spraypainted mine. Jonathan Adler was the inspiration as his home decor lines … Continue reading

Tuesday’s Tips: paint your counters to look like granite for under $70

image

I am not sponsored by Giani Granite but saw first hand how well a painted counter can be transformed with one of their kits. My cousins are in the process of updating their kitchen. One day I went there to see the new backsplash above and thought “oh yall got granite too” then my cousin’s husband broke it down for me. Showed me the technique, how simple it was with the sponges etc and how he even created veins to make the countwr look like real granite stone. I was beyond impressed. But when he told me the price, I was floored. You mean to tell me….with a little patience & time over a weekend one can update basic laminate for under 100 bucks? No more excuses for crappy counters.

You’re welcome. ;-)

Before & After: a dramatic bathroom transformation

image

I wish I could paint my place. This black and gold bathroom brings so much jazz to such a little space. I adore ornate mirrora like the one from Ikea which they spraypainted gold. See other ornate mirrors like this or this white & leopard room here and how mirrors can really change the look of a bathroom by snatching out medicine cabinets & replacing with a decorative mirror here.

I love a moody dark powder room. Since you spend minimal time here, I say go bold. You may be relunctant to use a darker shade of grasscloth wallpaper in a bedroom but it’ll be fine for a half bath. Nesting tables fills the space alongside the sink perfectly…

What a great imagination to even begin to see something new and hip from what it was. Love the nailhead trim detail. Upholstering can be costly but it’s worth it especially if it’s a piece passed down from an older generation. You want to hold on to it but make it fit your style.

Have you done a diy project that your proud of? It can be something small or big. I’d love to see. Shoot me an email with a few pics and a description and I may just feature yours.

Before & Afters with Mr. Goodwill Hunting…

I first learned about him while watching Nate Berkus and found his blog & became a fan. Sometimes all it takes is a lil bit of elbow grease to make something fabulous and bring life back into a piece. It’s the most cost effective way to make a lot of bang on a buck. So here are a few examples of furniture transformed into something great.
Kind of mad I didn’t do this with the old dresser I let my parent’s sell at our first, and maybe last… family rummage.
Shut the front door! So until I read this post, I just knew he had it upholstered……nope. He used paint. Painted the fabric. I’ve touched on this before when I came across this diy tutorial but you can read Rashon’s here. And get this…the inspiration from the chair was a Tom Ford outfit with plaid pants. Have you tried painting fabric? Have your own diy before & after? Feel free to shoot me an email. They may appear on the site.

Before and Afters: Painting Furniture Edition…

Haven’t done a before and after in a while. That’s primarily because I haven’t come across any. But I have three I feel are worthy of their own post…

One of my favorite before and afters yet. This has been updated with a classic palette that gives it a modern flair. The detailing in the wood to me stands out much better painted. Painting the base and top helps balance the black and looks beauitful in THIS room…

A nice craiglist find transforms into a stylish stool via

Below some inexpensive side tables were turned into something funky and bright and the hardware detailing gives it some character & edge. Love the colbalt blue hue. Get the tutorial HERE.
