No need to kick off your shoes and drop that purse by the door. Create a mudroom for the entry…

Have you ever rushed to get out the house and can’t find your keys for the life of you or left your cellphone on the charger way in your room? What if you have kids and certain pieces of key outerware items are missing including the matching rainboot? Or have you ever been so happy to make it home after a days of ripping and running that you simply undress by the door, throwing and tossing things in little piles? Piles of mail, shoes etc? Well create a designated area for it all…the mudroom. It’s a “catch-all” for it all. Have a mat for boots and shoes that have been thru the elements so dirt, mud and water doesn’t get tracked through the home. Have a basket of slippers for your guest and family to change into after they’ve taken off the other shoes. Ample hooks for coats, hats, purses & bookbags….

Love this beachy mudroom. It must be close to the pool because of the bright towels being stored and this would be the perfect spot for pool toys and sunscreen…

A more neutral mudroom with eathy hues and woven baskets. I like the area for bagged lunches and the charging station for phones etc…

Love the turquoise and stacked wood. This is my favorite…

For all you dog owners, you can even have a pet room. Keep their leashes, clothes, shampoos and toys in order with an area specifically for them. I can see this working for us feline owners as well if scratching posts were added…

I linked back to the designer of this entry space because it was her very first client and I think she done a fabulous job…

There is a place for everything. Hooks for hats, coats, umbrellas and toys….

Goes to show you, no matter the width of the wall, you can make it functional. Another example of this can be seen here.

She even did what I done for my latest client and provided a small dish for items like loose change etc…

Now that we’ve figured out some key things you may need for a mudroom, let’s work on a message board. This isn’t limited to families. You can be single and live alone and still benefit from this. Of course, the more members in the household, the bigger your board. Start with a calandar or planner where you can easily write down schedules, activities, events and appointments. Everyone will be able to see who needs to be where and when…

image

Have a meal planner of the week’s menu or a place for everyone to take part in writing down grocery lists. Each family member can easily go there to write down an item they used the last of. Also emergency contacts, doctor numbers etc are great for this command center…

image

A bin for permission slips, take out menus and bills. This all keeps a family organized and neat. The mudroom is the best place for this kind of message center…

image

Have ample post its and pens for quick reminders and to do lists. Yall know how big I am on task lists…

But if it’s just you and you have all your stuff organized in an office, feel free to have a glamorous modernized entry. You can still use some key elements but jazz it up a notch. Glass cylinder cases for umbrellas, a nice lucite or python tray for keys and shades and a hook or two for coats. Have a large mirror so you can check yourself out on the way out the door. It’ll make your life a bit less chaotic…
