The contrast between white and a dark color isn’t as stark as black and white. In particular white & dark brown. It looks incredible to decorate a bookshelf with white pottery, books and random objects. The dark background helps emphasize the shapes of the items displayed. Almost like a white silhouette. It also makes the objects pop.
